Impossible to remove character selection text

I had it disabled in the options, but every time I click a character their statements appear in text form in the window. How can I get this to stop? It is kind of annoying, if minor.

    It stops if you turn off subtitles in the Sound options.

    Thanks! I wonder why it's in the Sound section rather than Feedback--after all, text is "feedback,"
    not sound.
