Bug Bounty: Neera Clone

edited November 2013 in Fixed
I ditched Neera to make room for a temporary party member, and she returned to the FAI. When I went back to get her, she had somehow spawned a clone of herself in the same place she was standing, trapping the "real" Neera on top of it. I couldn't initiate dialog with her because it gave the error "Neera appears busy," as she was trying to come up to me to talk. I moved my char next to her, the dialog fired alright, and I readded her to my group. The clone was still there, so on a whim I killed it (because why not?). Killing the clone didn't get me any exp or make me lose rep, but I now have copies of all of her starting items.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I also tried talking to the clone first, and it came up with "Neera has nothing to say to you." Too bad, would have been awesome to have 2 Neeras in the group.

Observed behaviour: I booted Neera from the party (after robbing her blind of course), then when I went back to the FAI she was there although glitching out (she kept performing the same animation) whilst on top of a new Neera, who was wearing her robes and holding her quarterstaff. I couldn't rest at the FAI because of this so had to kill both, thus gaining duplicates of Neera's starting possessions, I was then able to rest at the inn. Worth noting that both Neera's didn't walk to talk to me, and I could only initiate dialogue with the second (fully equipped) Neera when the first (original) one was killed.

Expected behaviour: when removing Neera from the party she returns to the FAI where she will wait and not glitch out and the PC will be able to initiate dialogue with her.

I just ran into this bug myself.

    Current Behavior
After the fight in Beregost, I accidently clicked the wrong option, bringing her into my party.
I promptly kicked her out and she said would met me at FAI leaving me with the Gem Bag in my possession.
I finished up what I was doing in Beregost then went back to FAI only to find two Neera's standing in the same spot, one waiting, the other trying to initiate dialog.

You can't initiate dialog by clicking on them as you get "Neera appears busy." however, moving next her starts dialog.
As with @Aramina, killing the clone doesn't give XP or lose rep, and you get copies of all of her starting items.
The new Gem Bag is shared with the old Gem Bag, and what is sold from one, disappears from the other.

    Expected Behavior
    No clone.

    I cannot reproduce this :(

Do you have a save game?
  • TheCoffeeGodTheCoffeeGod Member Posts: 618
I have several from various points in time.

I narrowed it down to 2 saves.
One is before the fight, which I can't reproduce it on (possibly due to the new patch from earlier?)
The other is after the fight a few days later, but before I went back to FAI.
With the second one, the clone is already there, and reproducable even with repeated loadings.

So it happened somewhere in between those 2.

    How do I post them?

    -edit-

I just played around with the battle save many times.
I tried a bunch of things and it's definitely reproducible, though not consistant.
Save Neera -> Have her join -> Kick her out -> Travel to FAI -> Find/Don't Find Clone

@Avenger_teambg I have a few saves I can donate if needed/shown how. I forgot to get one saved at the inn before I killed her, but I did reproduce it again and remembered to save this time. I can't figure out how I reproduced it now; been playing around with area transitions/waiting/different party members, and I haven't been able to find anything that makes the clone every time. I've got 3 saves that might be relevant:

1 before all the shenanigans started (having issues reproducing the clone consistently at this point, but I've done it a handful of times)

1 when I'm on another map about to travel to the FAI map (just switching areas I've seen the clone appear every time)

and 1 after I'm already at the FAI with the clone there (outside since it won't let me save inside with her trying to talk to me)

@TheCoffeeGod I've been trying to figure out what causes it myself. First time it happened the order of events was: kick Neera out, add Edwin, add Minsc, travel 2 zones to Drizzt area, kill him, travel to FAI, and there she was with the clone. Made it work again without actually fighting Drizzt, but every time I tried to play around with who was/wasn't in the group it would stop working.

Almost like it knows I was testing it.... o.o

    (Current behavior)
There are two Neeras spawned in the same location of the Friendly Arm Inn. Dialogue cannot be initiated with Neera and the game cannot be saved in that room.

    (Expected behavior)
One Neera appears in the Friendly Arm Inn.

ok first of all both neera, dorn random start discussions/chat with me in friendly arms inn.

accepting neera, then leaving her so she walks to friendly arm inn results in 2x neera standing on top of eachother.

Waylaid by enemies dorn story. dorn appeares, kills the 3 in back chats up his friends, then leaves the area(never fights or chats with pc) and is atleast not in friendly arms inn or anywhere else ive looked.

This bug just happened to me.

Fortunately I have no interest in the wild wench but there's definitely 2 clones of her and I can't talk to her to tell her how much she isn't missed by my party :D

Could CLUA around it I imagine but just reporting it anyhow

edit I actually can talk to her after going upstairs and coming back but there is still 2 Neera's.

This same thing happened to me as well... and it's weird... one of them is enough... but two of them could RULE THE WORLD!

I'm not sure how the attachement restriction works on this forum, but you can always post a link to a file on Dropbox, Google drive, or some other free file sharing service.

The gem bag is a separate issue - I think it is probably a design limitation of the containers. @Avenger_teambg, can you confirm this? I'm seeing a CLUA'd gem bag full with the contents of a different saved game (Export character from single player - no gem bag, create new game in multiplayer, import character, CLUA gem bag, bag is full of stuff from single player game)

I have the clone, too, but I can't kill it. I took the gem bag and staff when I briefly had Neera in my party, so she was unarmed. She kept being "near death", but just wouldn't die.
  • Avenger_teambgAvenger_teambg Member, Developer Posts: 5,862
Yes, the gem bag is a known limitation and no one plans to fix that, because normally it wouldn't occur.

    -lol-
So I started over (I have a bad habit of doing that) and I saved Neera, then kicked her out again.
Then went back to FAI to get the rest of my stash, where she promptly initiated dialog without a clone, and I declined again leaving her standing in the middle of the room.
Then after getting the stuff I came for, I walked out of FAI, only to walk right back in because I forgot something, and low and behold, a clone showed up in the initial spot for "waiting Neera".

Man, I really wish there was a rhyme or reason to this bug so I could duplicate it consistantly so it could get fixed.

Kicked Neera after 10 or so days of the game, after completing her quest with Adoy.
    No mods, latest patch etc.
A strange thing. She was forcing the dialog, same did the clone. If I don't take her into the party, she keeps forcing dialogs :-)))

    LMAO

    P.S.:
With the latest patch the vanilla NPCs were also broken - their soundfiles are a mess.

I'm still not able to reproduce the duplication, but for an interesting loop effect (bug), kick out Neera on floor 2 of the FAI, and send someone other than the PC down to the first floor.

Again, if anyone can provide a saved game file where this is active or can be reproduced, it would help tremendously.

Here's a save from FAI where the clone is already present.
And here's a save from right before the fight.

Look at Neera, she is double! Plus she appears busy, when trying to talk to her... Plus it is not possible to save or rest
  • ErgErg Member Posts: 1,756
I had the same problem. I've attached a couple of savegames here:

    @Cactus
As temporary workaround, until it gets fixed, if you go upstairs and afterwards back on the main floor, you should be able to both rest and save (at least it worked for me).

I recruited Neera and then later removed her from the party. She went back to the Friendly Arm Inn.

Observed: When I recruited her again she was fidgeting. It took me a few times clicking on her to get her to respond. Otherwise the chat said she was busy. When I got her back into the party, she left a double in place of where she was standing.

Expected: Neera shouldn't leave an evil twin behind after rejoining the party.

Well Viccy would presumably leave a good twin ...
