Stuck on checking files

I have been stuck on checking files since the update and it never goes anywhere. this sucks. I got by it temporarily by simply playing the game and not using the updater. But my game doesn't save. i see save files but nothing comes up in the loading screen. Just wish this would work it brings back my childhood memories.
