Main character Good, rest of party Evil, Problem?

I wanted to make an evil party, but I also wanted my main character to be an archer. So, I made my main character an Good alignment Archer (since I'm not allowed to be an evil archer...).

I've seen in the past that evil characters in the same party as good characters can lead to... fights. Will this be a problem for my main character? I tend to choose the more 'selfish jerk' responses in dialog and in practive. Since he is good and the rest of my party is evil, will they turn on me?

If you keep your reputation relatively low they will not leave your side(be neutral) however don't go too low or you will become fallen ranger. I think you become one on rep 4 or lower.

The 'fights' might happen only between different NPC and not the PC, just take a party full of evil/neutral...they usually also have better stats.
And it's not really a problem to maintain a steady ~10 reputation. Just kill some questgiver, whose quest you already have finished, or other ppl in their houses without turning the whole inn/town hostile against you :)

I think you can go as low as 4, <4 and you become a fallen ranger.

Thanks, but what is a fallen ranger?

a fallen ranger is the "same" as a fallen paladin http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/168986#Comment_168986 basically if your reputation gets to low, you lose all your "special" abilitys which you are granted because of your class. In BG1 you cant come back of this in BG2 for paladins yes for Rangers i don't know.
basicly dont go below 6 i think not 4. and evil people are fine till 17 they are nit pissed but won't leave 18 not to sure maybe still ok but over 18 and they will leave you at some point.
I have vicona and edwin in my group and whenever i get a point more they say something like "this group is so idotic"

I c..I got the info also only from Gamebanshee, wasn't sure about when you become fallen.
Played BG2 also at least one time with a mixed party and maintained ~10 rep and never had any trouble.

Yeah, rangers can also get their stuff back in the sequel, in the same way as paladins (Stronghold quest line, though paladins get two chances (part of the windspar hills questline), rangers only get 1.)

Yeah, just keep your rep lower then 18, 16-14 is fine (and you'll get a little bit of a shop discount as well), and you won't have any problems, other then occasional grumblings.

A fallen paladin/ranger is a fighter that can only ** in weapons, and levels up a bit slower...but you keep any restrictions your kit may have had, so you couldn't specialize in melee or wear armors bigger then studded leather as an archer. You keep any profs you've already spent of course, but you lose everything else.

You don't have to kill innocent people to keep your rep low. If you are a nice person, like me, you will just pick a lock and steal something in plain sight, then try to bribe the guards. At that point, run away! You will get -1 at a time, so you can control it better, and you won't be a murderer!

Especially for Rangers and Paladins, you don't want to accidentally get a -8 or -7 when your rep isn't high enough and become fallen.

Oh also, if you want to meta-game a bit, there are lists online of quests that will give negative reputation. These can also help you to manage a 15-16 rep consistently throughout the game with a full evil party. I have run before with Viconia, Edwin, and Eldoth/Skie (just for kicks) with a good PC and was able to stay between 16 and 18 the whole game. Xan was my mage and I love his interactions with Viconia.

I am a Cavalier at 18 rep with Ajantis Viconia and Eldoth in my party and they sort of get along. I think as long as the rep doesnt continue going up it will be fine. So the good and evil characters can work together
