Daggers not doing correct damage

Bug :
I created a Swashbuckler, with 10 STR/DEX/CON/INT/WIS/CHA.
At level 1, using a dagger, with only 1 proficiency, he should be doing :
1d4 - Dagger base damage

When I hit with him, I deal 4-6 damage. That means the damage is :
1d3 +3 - Dagger base damage

If I level up the swashbuckler to level 5, he gets an additional bonus to THACO / AC.
At level 5, using a dagger, with only 1 proficiency, he should be doing :
1d4 - Dagger base damage
+ 1 - Swashbuckler damage bonus @level 5.

When I hit with him, I deal 5-7 damage.

Correct behaviour :
Hitting with a dagger should be doing 1d4 damage.

In the BG2 engine when a target of a melee attack has a ranged weapon equipped, it receives additional damage. Are you sure this wasn't the case?

Ah, this could be the reason then :) I'll test again.

Luck increases the minimal damage. Or very low difficulty?

No, it's probably just that the difficulty wasn't at 100%, and I was hitting another of my characters expecting to do 100% damage and where I was doing 75%.

Oh well, let's just say that this is not an issue :)
