Anyone happen to know if BGEE, BG1, BG2, PST, IWD2, etc. work with Windows 8?

Getting a new laptop with Win8 x64, would like to know if there are any issues getting Infinity Engine games to work, BGEE included.

(Though, actually, since Overhaul modified to coding of BGEE a lot, does is it still called Infinity Engine?)

Particularly in the case of installing the basic fixpax/widescreen mods.

Unless you purchase them from GoG. GoG updates all of the games they sell to be compatible with modern operating systems. They also recently started updating their games to be compatible with Windows 8, so if you buy from them there's a good chance the games will run fine. However, I have heard people who have had trouble running BGEE on Windows 8. To be honest, I'm not convinced Windows 8 is worth adopting yet, but then again, I've never actually used it.

BG:EE, unless you have the startup problems some people have, should work just fine with W8. It's been made with the OS in mind, so it should work flawlessly in theory.

I have a feeling that windows 8 will be the Vista of the coming years. Hopefully you can make it tolerable until 9 comes out.

There was a thread earlier about someone having trouble with running BG:EE on Windows 8, but they said the issue was resolved after they updated their graphics driver.

Windows 8 is basically just Windows 7, the only real difference is that instead of the start menu listing stuff out, it's all set up in a touch-based icon menu.

    That, and better optimization.

@State_Lemming: Windows 8 is new, so odds are most of the issues people have with anything could be fixed with driver updates.

I run these games just fine on WIndows 8, no compatibility mode needed (just finished BG2:ToB, in fact), using various mods. Ditto for BGEE.
