"This spell is already in your spellbook."

I have a pretty bad memory when it comes to remembering how many of the dozens of spells my two mages have memorized, and having to look through every scroll I find, pressing the "Write magic" button, and getting the annoying sound effect because I already have it, is kind of a drag.

Wouldn't it be possible to add in the improvement from later where the button for writing magic isn't even there if you have it already?

That's a pretty great idea for an improvement to something that should have been done in the original.

Should just be a matter of moving the flag and changing its behavior from "display tooltip" to "hide Write Magic".

Definitely better than trial and "Oops, I already read this book". ;)

don't remember how it worked in BG2, but in IWD (which i've played relatively recently), there was no learn button if the spell had already been learned.

This is now in the tracker along with a request to put a little "learned" icon in the corner of the inventory image so you don't have to open up each scroll to check.

Great, can this be done to scrolls in stores too?

That part is in the tracker, too.

This is one thing that as been bugging me for... since I played BG1 in 1998...

Currently: There is no way to know (graphically) if a spell (in the inventory) is know by the owner of that inventory (or shop)... If it's blue, it needs identifying... If it's red, it cannot be learned or cast... But the only way to know if the spell is in your spell book is either to check it yourself or try to read/memorize it... (Then you know either by learning (or failing to learn) message or by a message telling you that you already know that spell...

What would be cool: Either another color or the spell sheet being grayed out a little... I mean, if the spell is with an half transparent green background (color change) instead of a white one, you know that the character doesn't know that spell... Or, if it's "grayed out" (not red) you know that the character doesn't know that spell...

Would be very less painful (also most certainly when you have more then one game/character).

I have fetish of learning ALL spells in game avaliable, when my PC is mage so that would be certainly helpful for me. But, not everyone would like that idea I think.

Well, let's just say that... I have other things to do and leave it at that! I like Baldur's Gate, sure, but things like this are little bits that makes me annoyed a little... My brain "ram" is a little faulty, sort of speak... :p

    Nice!

This Enhanced Edition is being pretty good about scratching some old, frustrating itches.

Great!!! Now, THAT'S what I want to see! Addons (small and big) that are added by ideas from the users... All those who play the game! I really, REALLY respect those guys! Really! :)

Also, since it should be on the same engine for BGEE2, it will be very easy to fit in!

    Thanks!!!

P.S. Effect: Or just the "Write Magic" greyed out... or simply doesn't show... Good idea!
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: Naw... After playing again, I wan't to know if the spell is known BEFORE I go in the spell description... So the best way would be to add a mini icon to the scroll icon or simply change its color... Ease of use (as stated below)

It'd also be great for specialty mages that have a spell marked as red colored (as in they can't learn it) to have the write-magic button not there. Right now it does the same "fail" effect if they try to learn it. Not sure if thats already included in your intended change or not, but it probably is.

I support any feature that improves the ease-of-use of this game or any software. So, yes, please implement this!

Could be possible to have, when in a shop, a dot or some other sign for spell scrolls already in spellbook if the character selected is a mage?

Pretty sure this has been brought up... yes, thank you Google, here it is: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/10720/this-spell-is-already-in-your-spellbook

It's in the tracker. Here's hoping we get it in the next patch, it's a small improvement but will make it much smoother sailing managing mage-heavy parties when it's time to go shoppin'.

I've sometimes thought of something similar in a shop. How about designating when the Specialist Mage cannot cast one of the spells for sale becomes it comes from the opposite school? Although we should be able o determine this by reading the spell description, it would be a quick time saver.

Jalily says this one's in the tracker, and the next patch is supposedly "fairly enormous", so... do you guys think we'll be seeing this feature soon?

But you already have this feature. The scroll will be unusable (marked red) if it's from an opposite school.
