[Request] Puzzles and Challenges in New Content

Hey everyone,

I suppose this one goes without saying, but it might be worth bringing up just in case. This request is essentially that the new content be rounded, in the sense that it implements a range of different challenges fluidly. i.e. a proper balance of story, combat, exploration, mentally challenging puzzles and substantive dialogue. It's the later two which I think can easily be overlooked.

I'm sure this is all well within Overhaul's radar anyway, but it might be worth emphasising the importance of real depth here. (I think Trent already mentioned that they hope to add depth to BG through the new content).

Yes... I think they actually kinda have to make the new content stand out qualitywise, just because it's a teaser for BG2EE new content and moreso a BG3. Durlag's was just an expansion to BG1, but it's my favorite part of BG1 because it works so well and adds so much depth- and it's definitely got its share of puzzles and challenges... The BG1 world being so open just lends itself to such expansions, whether directly related to the main plot or not in the least. It's a ripe world out there for adventurers, wouldn't ya know.

    Exactly my feelings.

As long as none of the puzzles are Tower of Hanoi or Magic Square.

Just to be a bit awkward and different, I wasn't too fussed by the challenges in Durlags. The riddles are always a little bit annoying to me infact but I guess I enjoy everything as a whole more for them being there. Anyway I prefer a badass quest line and more difficult bosses. Working out how to down the bosses is more rewarding than a riddle or puzzle. That's my opinion at least.

Some of the puzzles in Durlag's are Candlekeep-like (go fetch the grapes, run the wine press, bring it back)- but then at the end instead of getting a 5gp, 50XP reward you get a huge fight on your hands. lol Gotta love Durlag's... The thing about the Durlag puzzles though is that they add to what turns out a very dark, compelling storyline that unfolds brilliantly as you get deeper (at least if you don't get all the spoilers from Ulgoth's Beard ahead of time). That said Durlag's is even wackier a dungeon crawl than NWN1's descent into the famed Halaster's traps and puzzles.
