I love Algernon's Cloak

I realize it's a borderline cheat item, but consider:

1) Weasel your way into the bandit camp
2) Use the Cloak to charm all the human bandits around (they won't turn hostile even if they pass the save)
3) Charm Ardenor for some heavy support
4) Attack one of the Chills
5) ????
6) Civil war!

This sort of potential available everywhere.

I should probably stop using it at some point, since technically I shouldn't even know where to find it (at least in-character), but I can't. It's too much fun.

Why wouldn't you know? There's a quest to steal it and everything.

Yes, but I only get to know about it once I enter Baldur's Gate, which is countless hours of gaming time after I am first given the opportunity to steal it.

Only a truly cleptomaniac thief could roleplay finding it before he's supposed to. Like, picking absolutely everyone's pockets and oh hey this is a real nice cloak this one guy had.

The quest to steal it will only come into knowledge well after you can potentially first encounter Algernon.

It looks nice and all, your thief probably noticed that it was enchanted when encountering Algernon.

I only use it for the charisma buff, it's too cheesy otherwise, would be less OP if limited to once a day usage or having limited charges

I actually found it myself while I was pick pocketing and lock picking all of Beregost for hours, about 12 years ago. It was one of my first BG sessions and I didn't have internet to check up superitems and stuff yet back then :)

Most overpowered item in the game imo

My role was a 12 year old elementary kid with too much free time back then.

Lol I pickpocketed this on a random stealing spree myself day 1. Had no idea it has the special ability!

Yea I likewise only use it for the 20 charisma you can easily get with it.

Aaaah. I remember that one from my first (and only >.>) playthrough. Used it to "take over" the entire Shadow Thief guild in Baldur's Gate and used them to kill... someone. Probably their leader?

EDIT: Actually, I think I used a Nymph Cloak, but the effect sounds similar.

Going to 21 is basically pointless though. Having a base of 19 is only really useful in BG2 (so its still worth doing its just in BGEE it makes no difference).
