Firebeard and the 300 gold

Did they patch it out cuz I'm trying, I've clicked on him 30+ times and no gold. I know this has been a topic before I'm sorry, but what's the deal? I am at the beginning of the game btw and I already did his fetch quest.

It's in his dlg... I checked. It may only work from his other location.

I don't think that easter egg (cheat??) works in BG:EE. At least I've never been able to make it work. I've done it in the original game.

I've only pestered him in Beregost, but it's entirely likely I only clicked him X-1 times, instead of the X required, for any arbitrary value of X.

I keep forgetting to try it in Candlekeep.

hmm... I can't get him to give it either. He has the script assigned: GG300.bcs which checks for NumTimesTalked(30). Both his CRE files have the script assigned.

It works in Candlekeep no problem. Requires EXACTLY 30 clicks, and takes a good twenty or thirty seconds after click thirty to actually give you the gold. If you click time 31, it seems as though the gold is gone.

Ah good... I must not have been patient enough!!! Thanks @Deucetipher

It works fine for me in Candlekeep. It's the first thing I do to make sure I keep track of the # of times I talked to him.

I guess I'll get all clickety with him in Beregost for about 20 clicks, then patiently click through with long pauses since I'm not sure how many times I clicked him (definitely less than 10, though!) in the current run when I was in Candlekeep.

Well, that would be why I've never managed to get him to give me gold. I knew you had to wait for awhile for the script to activate, but I didn't realise it was that long. I'll remember that for next time.

In Beregost I had no luck giving it to him with Imoen while she also had the book on her.
Then giving the book to my my main and let him do the talking triggered the quest.

Whether or not this was purely coincidental, after clicking an unholy amount with Imoen beforehand, I have no idea.

I ended up restarting my skald (not rerolling; I simply loaded up the "starting out" save I'd made outside Winthrop's in Candlekeep) and patiently clickety-clickety 30 times, then waited until a pile of gold magically appeared in the invisible coin purse.

Firebead funded my skald's chain and halberds. (I bought all three, just in case.)

I managed to get the book quest from hom (eventually), but not the 300 gold for speaking to him 30+ times, even with CHARNAME as my leader, not sure why this isn't working

After 4 tries, I decided to just kill him; gave me quite the satisfaction, 2700XP and ~700 gold (the pocket money + robe). Maybe I just wasn't patient enough. And my Fighter is berserker anyway, so his first 3 fear spells just decorated the floor of the inn. Spent 300 gold to recover the loss of rep though ^^ but money ain't not a problem anyway.

@Oxford_Guy I haven't examined the script all that closely, but it's quite possible that you need to talk to him in Candlekeep (and not Beregost) for the gold. Other than that, as has been stated you need to stop and wait after talk #30 to give it time to trigger. Just keep a careful count.

It's tempting! I have an evil party after all.. Is the reputation loss just the standard one for killing an innocent (usually 2 or 3 at my rep levels...)?

Only I got the gold eventually in Beregost, so there's that.

I got -4 if I remember right, used only the 300 for recovering +3..made some money and went even higher to get cheap prices asap. But reputation gain is not really a problem....but having 20 for -50% store items is very tempting.
Have to play a good party for import-purpose :P Wanna enjoy also some of the other chars in BG2 and the beyond the law npc pack.

But the XP boost that early on is insane, made imoen, Khalid & Jaheira also lvl 2 right away instead of only 1. But dropped them .. don't like neither of them.

    Okay, I killed him! :-)

Only lost 2 rep, has my rep was 8 (no 6, but I have a couple of quests that will bump me up a point or two - with an evil party I try to stay around 6-8 rep

weird, but just checked..had both savegames. starting rep 11 (CG) - after kill 7. Doesn't matter at this point...so who cares :)

That's normal, the amount of reputation you lose for killing an innocent varies depending on your reputation at the time you made the kill - see page 19 of the "Melee and Magic" manual, this is why for most fun, it's best to have quite a low reputation (but not *very* low) when playing evil...

BTW I only got 78 gold from killing him (plus his robe)
