Sooner than I expected (I thought this project was a hoax the first time I heard of it) but later than I hope (I'd like to move on to it right after I finish BGEE)
That would be an interesting idea, Raziel. But I kinda doubt it. I think they plan on doing BG2 and then BG3 when they make lots of cash money. Then maybe they'll tackle Planescape: Torment and the Icewind Dales.
But I guess we'll just see. I want a tutorial in Baldur's Gate 2: EE that lets me play as Jon Irenicus torturing the heroes, killing Khalid, and Dyna, and all that other good stuff. Oh yes! BUH WHAHA!
Narrator: This is your PC...or at least...our randomly generated rendition of him. In your game it might be a girl! Zomg! Anyway...you are Jon Irenicus. You are an evil cad. But it's fun being evil. And in this tutorial you will use fun spells and wicked laughter to taunt the hero for no reason other than because he was born. Are you ready? GET SET! GO!
@darthchair Playing as Irenicus (in a tutorial) would be awfully fun. Maybe throw in some dominated shadow thieves to test out the thief skills, a dominated priest of Cyric/Mask for the healing, and use one of his golems for testing sheer attack power?
Also, I think they will do BG2:EE and BG3 before trying to get the rights to PS:T or IWD, but I certainly hope they Enhance them all (maybe not PS:T for me, but other people like it so go ahead).
They have a contract to complete BG2:EE, so that will be next on their list. Work on that won't start until BG1:EE's PC release is stable, though, so until then it's difficult to predict anything.
My money is on "around this time next year", although I certainly hope people get to see it sooner. I liked Amn better than the Sword Coast, and I can't wait to go there (again).
Yep, as Aosaw said, development on BG2:EE won't really start until they've finished the current one. Still bugs to fix and I like to imagine they'll add the rest of the cut scenes too. I wonder how DLC will work out now I think about it... I imagine the sequel gets higher priority, obviously, but they did say they wanted to do some content DLC for this one too, and there's the whole Adventure Y thing still.
I absolutely do not see BG2:EE being released until November/December next year, or maybe spring '14. They are going to be spending the next month or so hammering out BG:EE bugs while slowly transitioning into BG2:EE. The next game is even bigger than this one!
I'm not counting on it for at least a year. Who knows, maybe a lot of the heavy lifting was already done for BG1 and BG2 will mostly involve applications of similar fixes and changes. But the game is just so big, especially with ToB tagged on. I can't imagine it taking less time than this did.
Trent (or someone) i think said in their Reddit thing that a lot of work done for BG2:EE has already been done since they've enhanced the UI and the engine, and they said 2 will take less time because of this. Not linking to any source because I'm lazy, but trust me, I'm a wizard.

It's been a while since they made all the statements they did there though, so the reality may have changed a bit. But yeah, they're not doing another engine revamp for BGII, so that is indeed a lot of work allready done.
