Swashbuckler w BackStab?

ksSilkstepperksSilkstepper Member Posts: 7
1) I stumbled across a few threads about actually upping Backstab on a Swashy but I think they might have only been referencing BG2. Is there any item that increases BS in BG EE?

2) Also second question. Can a swashy make a BS attack for just normal dmg? But with increased THACO?

    2) I think anytime you attack while hidden/invisible you get a bonus to THAC0, doesn't even have to be a thief, and you don't have to be positioned behind the person.

    1) The Short Sword of Backstabbing adds 1 to the backstab multiplier.

I'm not sure, but I think this is only true with mods. I forget which one, but I want to say Rogue Rebalancing.

Stalker - Swashbuckler with backstabbing, spellcasting, and better weapon choices. No thieving skills though. With all the NPC thieves that's rarely an issue.

Not in vanilla. In vanilla it's just a Short Sword +3 with no other special properties.

I know you don't get backstab damage (or better attack rolls) if you attack from sanctuary. Unless perhaps if you are using hide in shadows while in sanctuary (but that is all totally irrelevant to a swashbuckler unless they are dual classed to a cleric).

True, I looked at the BGEE one.
EDIT: No, I didn't, I looked at the one in my modded BG2 install. Forgot that I had changed SK's target. So, put my foot in my mouth again, and even with mustard it didn't taste very well.

It's a shame D&D does not give swashy at least x1.5 backstab. Otherwise i'd play it all the time...

Weird, I just looked through the .itms, and the only weapon with a backstab bonus is something called the Viper's Edge, which looks awesome. Must be a black Pits thing, which I haven't tried yet.

This sword is one cool item, I gotta admit. Cursed, but can petrify, annihilate undead, knockback, poison, paralyze and charm, all on hit. Also boosts dex, penalizes CON, +1 apr, improved backstab, regeneration.

Heavy drawbacks though: minus con, chance of poisoning, chance to berserk, cause wild surges in nearby mages, intolerance to heal pots, -10% hp

Sanctuary just makes it so they can't target you, but they can still see you, so it would make sense that you won't get a bonus to THAC0.

The swashie doesn't need any further buffs, it's already one of the strongest (if more boring) thief kits

It's from rogue-rebalancing, the PnP Shortsword of backstabbing. In the original version it simply added +1 BS (and hit as +5, but still only +3 hit/damage), and allowed swashies to get x2. They corrected it in the next version so that it would only apply the bonus to Assassins, thieves, and bounty hunters. Stalkers couldn't use it.

The swashbuckler doesn't need backstab. Just make a fighter/thief, since that's what you're basically asking for. Nearly fighter thac0, speicalization, better attacks per round (instead of a straight + damage), can still backstab, levels reasonably fast (barely slower then a swashy really) if you dual at 9 or just make a F/T multi.
