We're happy to announce that BG:EE for iOS6 is available for sale in iTunes. We've very proud of the game and we think it is pretty damn awesome.
But, this means it is not currently available for iOS 5.1 or iPad 1 devices. We've been working very hard, going back and forth with Apple and we have been unable to achieve a successful iPad1 build of the game. The core issue is running out of memory (the iPad 1 has half the memory of all other iPad devices). After around 40 minutes of play time, continual attempts by us to garbage collect and clean up memory seem to fail and the application exits with an out-of-memory error. We have tried all the easy solutions and many of the hard solutions to this problem. Our plan is to retrench and come at the iPad 1 memory problem from a new direction.
We made a hard call and decided to put the iPad 2,3 and 4 version up for sale so many of the people who wish to play the game can enjoy it while we are free to continue to work on the iPad 1 memory problem.
For the iPad 1 users, all we can say is that we are very sorry, we under-estimated the difficulty of the task at hand and we will continue to work towards an iPad 1 build of the game.
