"Gameplay
Adapting the combat system of Fallout 1 / 2 to Baldur Gate
Adapting the system to increase skills, talents Fallout 1 / 2 to Baldur Gate"
Also, it'd be nice for everyone if you explained a little more in your post (copy/pasting is not much of an effort) instead of saying "I have ideas, follow this link and read the giant thread to see them!"
Still, I like adversity, I'm going to check this out. With every point, I'll list what I interpret as your intention with that point.
1) Defence
"Instead of using Guard Mode to defend another character, have the option to go into a Defensive Fighting form. "
This is possible with excisting D&D rules. However, the game engine hardly supports this, so it will be very tricky to control. Blades have Defensive Spin, but it lasts a set duration and costs a round to activate. An easy toggle (like in Temple of Elemental Evil) is impossible with the game engine. It'd be nice to have, but highly impractical to implement.
2) Soft Knock
"The ability to knock an opponent out as a way to peacefully steal things or complete quests without gruesome murder"
Already in the game (sort of) as unarmed attack, but hardly a viable combat way and it still makes everyone in a three mile radius hostile. Wouldn't be opposed to a Thief weapon being implemented, the sap, which can backstab, casting a 'spell effect' that knocks the opponent out cold unless it makes a save vs Paralysation. Something like that. Might be nice.
3) Fatality
"More ways for gruesome murder with special animations and such"
No. This is not Mortal Combat. Also, there will be no new art because the original art assets were lost, and if there was new art, this is probably far too advanced for the game engine. Enemies explode when you kill them hard enough, that'll do.
4) Weapon Proficiency: Unarmed Combat
"It's pointless to find hand-to-hand, even fighters suck without their weapon"
True, but even a Grand Master in Unarmed loses out to anyone with a weapon, especially a magical one. If you want to fight unarmed, play a monk. Implementing this weapon focus tree might make sense, but it will be useless ingame, since there is no reason to use it (it always being the less attractive option)
5) Option Multiclass: Fighter/Cleric/Thief
"There is a fighter/mage/thief, why not a fighter/cleric/thief?"
Fair enough. If it's an allowed 2nd Edition multiclass option, why not? However, they said there would be no new classes (only 1 new kit) so it probably won't happen. Shadowkeeper can fix it for you though, I think.
6) Expanded Weapon Slots
"The current limit of often only 2 weapons per character is very small, this should be improved"
True, and considering they are rebuilding the UI, a definite option. Personally, my biggest gripe is being unable to equip a bow if you also have a shield equipped. IWD2 solved this by being able to assign 'weapon groups', where you just equipped a sword and shield in one group, bow in the other, two swords in yet another. A useful way of switching weapons.
7) Expanded GUI
"It's difficult to switch between weapons and armour, this must be improved"
To be honest, this was a very vague point. I think it comes together nicely with the previous point though. Make it easier to equip certain things. For weapons, I agree. For armour, I don't. It's one thing to have your character sheathe his sword and grab his bow in a few seconds, it's another for him to drop his belted down full plate armour and quickly get into his leather armour while the enemies are bearing down on him.
8) Realms Fighting Styles
"There are very cool fighting styles from the D&D books, they should be incorporated"
Many of the examples you cited cannot be done. They either only work in certain terrain (for which there is no flag other than 'dungeon/outside/day/night') or give bonusses to things that aren't in the game (parry saves for instance), or are already in the game (Blades' fighting style).
9) Non-Weapon proficiencies
"They should include the non-combat proficiencies from D&D to enhance roleplaying!"
Not a bad thing, in theory. In practice, I don't think Accounting, Meditation, Geneology, Heraldry, Street Illusion, Boating, Librarian or 90% of the others will ever come into play. The ones that are useful (haggling, speed casting) are already in the game through Charisma/reputation checks and various items that decrease casting time.
10) Socketed Items
"I love socketed items from Diablo, and it would enhance the non-existant Smithing and Alchemy skills!"
No.
11) Sound Set Expanded/Expanded Ambient Sound Set
"Give the PC more things to say, or at least have more background sounds"
The PC doesn't have more things to say really. The soundsets are already pretty specific. I would argue that there should be *more* soundsets, as Ive grown sort of tired of the same set by now.
12) Expanded team
"I want an additional party member!"
If you mean, expand the party to 7, no. The group is already rather big, if they expand it to 7, they'd have to rebalance ALL combat encounters.
If you mean "I want a new NPC", then yay, you're getting one.
13) Optional Feature: Race/Faction
"I want more races and the option of a starting faction at the start of the game"
You don't start the game open-ended, you start in Candlekeep. There aren't any factions in Candlekeep to join. Maybe along the course of the game, but I feel Baldur's Gate's narrative is pretty tight, adding in factions, the politics that come with them, divert even more focus from the main storyline, making it more of a sidequest while you try and become Master Harper/High Imperitor of the Zentharim.
More races...maybe, as long as it's not freakin' Drow (and let's have that discussion in the other thread).
14) Custom Humanoid Cre
"The characters should be more distinct, I want to be able to look like Elminster, Drizzt, an Ogre or a person from Calimshan or Amn or a creature from another plane!"
No. And yes.
I'm not opposed to more character models (though, because of earlier mentioned art problem, it won't happen) but if you want to look like Elminster or Drizzt, go play an Elminster or Drizzt game (those excist? I hope not)
You're a normal person from Candlekeep. Not an Ogre-mage.
15) Throwing Weapon Switch
"Make it a toggle between throwing a weapon and using it in melee"
Already excists, when you have, for examble, the returning throwing axe Prat drops under Candlekeep, you can rightclick it and select Melee, so you attack in melee with it.
16) Alignment Compass
"I want a compass in the game that shows me how good/evil I am."
No. I am not a fan of point-based roleplaying. Then it quickly becomes a case of pointcollecting or worrying about how this will affect your balance, instead of thinking about what your character would do. For the same reason, I dislike the favor system later Bioware games have for their NPC's. If you want to know how good or evil you are, try and remember how good or evil you did past quests and reflect on that. The game doesn't need to tell you.
17) Localised Damage
"I want to be able to target arms, legs, heads and groins"
Everyone wants to target the groin, it's never not funny. It is, however, very impossible to do with the current engine.

There, now my fingers need a rest from typing.
hmm never knew the art was stolen.
@salomonkane
I know its easier for you to post a list of stuff you'd like changed, but I'd guess it's easier for the developers if your requests were grouped with other similar requests. A lot of what you suggest has already been requested by other people and it would be better if you added your arguments to those discussions.
