How does the new Black Pits content work? Is it completely separate from the BG game?

    Yes it's separate. You have to choose which you want to play at the moment: BG or Black Pits in main menu.
    It's arena, where you fight with harder and harder enemies each round. You get exp and gold for each won battle, and between rounds you can buy equipment.
