Can't kill Degrodel

So I've collected the helm and cloak for Degrodel and was about to kill him as usual... only to find that now he disappears immediately after dialog with him is done. It appears you now have no chance of killing him in the Enhanced Edition and there is no way to complete this quest. Has anyone figured out a way to do this yet? He simply vanishes into thin air, doesn't walk away or teleport or anything like that. Seems like a bug to me.

    There is a way to finish the quest. There is, however, no way to finish the quest with out giving him the quest items. So its your choice. I normally just say screw you.

    Have a look here: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/15722/degrodel-just-disappear
    I managed to give him the helm and kill him by paralyzing him (with Imoen being at the back of the room, so i can see when the spell hits) and talking to him at the same time. In my game he disappears in less than a second, but it still gives me enough time to do just that.

    In my last attempt (I might retry to see if something has changed), I was able to deal with this sucker by positioning my characters around him, answering him then pausing the game immediately.

    Then everybody pummels him / cast arrows & magic missile on him and has an instant death before he vanishes.

    IIRC, I had Rasaad stun him in my first full playthrough thus far. You do have to act fast.

    Sounds like @sea have the same issue I had.
    And there is no acting fast for that, even if you are standing around him with improved haste, pausing after dialogue, issue commands and then unpause there is still no way you will land a single hit before he is gone.
    Normal behavior = 5-8sec
    Bugged behavior = 0.1sec -> Solution: Pause -> Ctrl+Y

    @Freche Ah, ok, gotcha re: the bug.

    Is that a bug, or is that the typical exit-stage-right script that NPCs go through when they are walking off? Like, head to the nearest door and despawn, or head out of sight and despawn, or if no path found, despawn?

    I've had this issue too. No dimension door, no wander off and despawn, just gone immediately after dialogue.

    Excellent suggestion.

    I had the same bug; literally less than a second after he gets the Helm of Balduran, he disappears. Just vanishes.

    This worked, though. Use the Wand of Paralyzation before you speak to him, pause JUST before the little spell-ball lands (maybe 1/10th of a second after using the wand), speak to him (make sure the person is standing right next to him), and then right before he's about to disappear, the spell-ball will land and (hopefully) paralyze him in place. Save before you do all this. Timed correctly, it does the job.

    This also works with charm spells.
