Can I play single player with six custom NPC's?

I'd like to play through with just my own custom NPC's instead of any of the in-game ones. Can this be done?

If so, how do I start it? I've created and exported 6 custom characters, but can't figure out to start a game with them all.

    back in the day you started a multiplayer game with the 6 guys and then saved the game and copied the save game to the single player savegame folder

    Start a multiplayer game, with all 6 characters assigned to yourself. Save the game.

    Exit. Copy the save file from the multiplayer folder to the single player folder. Load the game as single player.

    On the main menu, click multiplayer instead of single player.

    I got it, finally, thanks. I didn't realize I had to click the check marks.
