Just so you know, you cannot save during combat.

    You also cannot save when ongoing area effects are active. (Web, Stinking Cloud etc) Even if they are not within your line-of-sight you cannot save on that map until the duration expires.

    You also cannot save when you don't have control over your party members.

    You also can't save on the map where you get waylaid by enemies.

    The best time to save is right when you enter a new map.

    You cannot save while a party member is leaving the map (i.e. after they've finished speaking with you).

    You also cannot save if your hamster is trapped in a den of steeinking evil.
