The (vanilla) Bard Class

I am deciding that when the game is fixed and working (hopefully soon), I will play as a regular bard for roleplaying purposes. I want to use either a light crossbow or bow mixed with regular bard song and spells for utility purposes.

I was going to ask about the bard song, it says in the manual that the regular bard song gets rid of fear and protects from it. That much I know, but what does raise morale to 10 mean? Does that in any way raise the rolls for to hit/damage like it did in Icewind dale 1? I just want to know in case anyone knows about this. Thanks.

No it does not. Bard song merely protects/gets rid of fear and the "raise morale to 10" part means that no one is going to start running because of health loss (Khalid, Kagain, and Garrick are the most prone to going morale failure).

Anyone know if fear spells and morale failure is common enough to make the vanilla bard song usefull?

Well I could have told you that. Ive seems morale failure in the original game happens numerous times. In fact Ive even seen the mighty minsc have it happen, though not in bg2. It happens sometimes sporadically.

@szb, you're going to want to have Fear protection active every time you face a mage. But you can do it with a first level cleric spell that lasts a whole hour. Plus, the bardsong is going to fail every time a party member steps out of range of the bard, which is a lot, making it unreliable for Fear protection.

Basically, there's not a good reason not to take a kit, unless your primary goal is a high pickpocket score.
