Spoilers - Is there any way to kill Tethoril in the Prologue?

Has anyone been able to kill Tethoril in the prologue, or at least prevent him from insta-killing the PC? If so, how did you do it?

I used a protection from magic scroll and he still killed my PC with magic lightning. He even insta killed my PC while I was on a different map after having started to attack him.

I've been able to get him to barely injured, but I he insta-kills my PC before I can get any further.

Edit: I'm using an imported BG2 character, so I have access to high level spells and decent weapons.

    He can be killed, I just cheated to confirm this. Even so these are is his stats in BGEE.
