Talking Ragefast into letting Abela go

I already asked this question in a thread in the the bug subforum, which probably isn't the correct place. So here again:

I'm trying to talk Ragefast into letting Abela go without fighting him. Doesn't seem to work, no matter which options I chose.
I took the quest from Ramazith before, reputation is heroic (20).

Is it actaully possible not to fight him and free Abela, when I took the quest from Ramazith before?

    I believe there's no other way than to fight him.

    It's definitely possible. I don't think I've ever had to fight him. Don't remember the exact options at the moment though. It may require high charisma.

    According to the Game Banshee walkthrough, it is possible. I just did it recently with my Charisma 19 Bard and it worked perfectly. Here's what the walk-through says:
    Talk him into releasing her: You can tell Ragefast that what he does is wrong and that he should prove his love for Abela by releasing her(choices: 2-2-1-2). He finally accepts and you get 2000 Exp. for doing so and Abela gives you a Lock of Nymph's Hair to show her gratitude.

    Main chars Charisma is 18.
    But perhaps Ragefast talked to Minc, which is group leader currently. I will check going in with my main char alone...
