Limited usability on text scrolls

Hi,
I've encountered several regular scrolls - such as the letter in 'Mirianne's Husband' - that are marked with red in my inventory, as if I'm not able to use the scroll (currently playing a CN Dwarf Fighter/Thief). Of course, the kinds of scrolls that I'm referring to have no practical use intended, so this is not really an issue, but I'm quite sure I didn't see this "bug" in the original Baldur's Gate.
Worth picking up on?
Also, I've noticed that scrolls of this type that are not marked with red can sometimes be placed in a character's quick slot, even though clicking the quick slot afterwards has no consequences.

Tagging @SethDavis to ask whether I should redmine this.
As for literacy, if a stat minimum is enforced, I believe there should be some kind of in-game explanation. A short description like you suggest would do.
So, we didn't get any wiser. Probably we should still go with PnP. as CamDawg said.
@SethDavis - It doesn't seem appropriate to me to have to identify a scroll with Lore to be able to read it. "Yeah, no, I've no idea what it says, but I've heard about scrolls, you know?" I get that it would be a convenient solution though.
I realise it'd probably be a bit more hassle, but is it possible to make a scroll readable only when it's placed in the inventory of a character with a minimum of 9 INT? Some items that are "NOT USABLE BY: MAGE" have a tendency to have this usability-descriptor vary depending on whether the mage that has the item in their inventory is a specialist or not. To me it seems like there's some unintended variable involved here that could be used on text scrolls.
