Can't pick locks, stuck in training with no way out

It is impossible for me to select the chest for the thief to attempt to pick the lock in the training portion of the game. I can see it with the magnifying glass icon, but no spot on my screen will let her pick the lock. On top of it all, every 30 seconds or so I get an annoying message from her saying I haven't done it yet. Wow, talk about not fun at all.

    You've probably already succeeded in picking the lock, there should be a response in the dialog box though.
    To complete the task, you also need to open the chest and take the content.
    Have you done that?
