18 Dexterity -4

I'm playing an Assassin level 1 and have an 18 in dexterity. For armor class it says Dexterity -4, AC 10 so my actual AC is 6. I'm confused by this as the modifier for an 18 should be +4.

Remember that lower AC is better.

I feel like because AD&D is such an old system now that periodically BGEE should show up a loading screen tooltip that says "REMEMBER - LOWER AC/THAC0/SAVES ARE BETTER"

    This isn't dnd 3e, mate.

    The way it works is:
Your THAC0 (to hit ac 0) minus the enemy's AC is compared to your roll. If the latter is higher, the hit is successful.
As you can see, the lower ac you have, the better.
