Khalid & Jaheira won't spawn at the FAI if you don't go soon enough

Aparrantly this was an issue in the original as well, so I'm not sure if it's a scripting "Bug" or deliberate, but if it is deliberate there is no appropriate journal update to remove/advance that quest:

If you complete the Nashkel mine quest prior to picking up Jaheira & Khalid, they will never spawn & you can never add them to your party. I wish I had known this before devoting about 5 hours of careful exploration south & completion of the Nashkel mine quest. I now have to start over .

Xzar & his companion express great urgency and threaten to leave if you don't go to NashkeI. In fact they did leave me after needing to rest too many times and triggering their "you're taking too long" script, so I reloaded and decided to do Nashkel before FAI to keep them on board.

Jaheira and Khalid will actually leave if you take too long to go to Nashkel when they are in your party as well, you get like 5-6 warnings from them, then they are like 'bye'
I believe their leaving is when not in party is also working as intended. In this situation the best thing is to tell Xzar you have companions waiting in FAI then go get them asap, this seems to buy some time.

This is entirely like in vanilla. Xzar/Monty behave the same way. Both duos were sent by their respective organisations to investigate the iron crisis.

Note that you don't have to actually enter or complete the mines to stop either of their timers (when they are in your party)- both stop once you have entered Nashkel proper and spoken to the mayor - both duos will also disappear from their spawn locations if you don't pick them up at all before completing the mines.
