Durlag's tower and tablets (Ipads) (SPOILER?)

I have a curious question about Durlag's tower and how it works on tablets.
So, when you enter the basement level of Durlag's tower, there are items which need to be put together or environment which needs to be interacted with, but there is no way to see where these interaction points are because they are not highlighted. For example, you have to put together the mallet, bang the gong and start the engine. On a computer you can find these points by hovering the mouse over certain areas, but they are not highlighted by the tab.
I'm just curious because I just reached that point myself on the PC and am wondering how I would have fared playing on a tablet. Should a player be able to solve these puzzles without any help from the cursor?
