Dorn/Neera/the crappy monk don't level up when you collect them later

The new NPCs don't level when you leave them and come to pick them up later, like the old NPCs do. Is this a bug or an oversight by Overhaul?

    I'm almost positive that:
If you pick up a character, leave them for a while, and then pick them up again, they don't auto-level up. They only level up to approximately match your level the first time you recruit them. This is the case for all characters, and is how it was in vanilla BG.

Nah, I flat out rejected Dorn at the beginning of the game, and he's still level 1 when I'm level 7!

I'm not sure what you're saying. Do you mean that the very first time you recruited Dorn into your party was when you were at level 7, and yet he started at level 1? If so, that is odd, because he started at level 2 for me, even though I was much lower than level 7 (I think level 3 or so).

Only Rasaad leveled up to match a higher level CHARNAME. I tested this when I ran though with a level 9 mage. all the other NPCs in the game spawned with higher level equivalents. but not the other two new NPCs. Neera was level 1, Dorn level 2.

That crappy monk slaps the shit out of things with 19 strength. And is currently rocking 10 thac0 with two attacks per round.

Huh, I guess it's pretty random then, because I just picked up Neera with a level 10 bard and she started at level 6.

    Edit: Same thing with Dorn.

I have no idea. I've been level 9 the ENTIRE game haha I got them all after the latest patch too.

I mean, when the oppurtunity arose to recruit him, I said no. Then, I came back to him at the friendly arm inn and recruited him, but he was only level 1.

How'd you manage to get him the strength? At level seven he does about 9 damage (if he hits them) and is chunked by almost anything.

There's your problem right there. He is coded such that he automatically joins you and if you reject him the game treats him as if you had picked him up and then kicked him. If you had simply never spoken to him at the friendly arm inn until later, he would be much higher level when you later on talk to him and then experience his "waylaying joining".

It's not just when you pick them up. I believe the game checks your level the first time you enter the area in which they are, spawns the appropriately leveled NPC and records it. If, for example, you traveled through Beregost and didn't pick up Neera, she would be stuck at the lower level she was when you entered Beregost, even if you didn't group her for another five levels.

That's how it seems to work, I think.

@grimo88 His quest has a cursed item in it that gives you 19 strength and 6 int. He's doing 10-19 damage with 11 thac0. He has the bracers that add to thac0 and damage.

Can other characters wear that cursed item? Branwen only has 13 strength and it's be REALLY nice of her to have 19 instead. I might recruit the monk JUST to do his quest and get zhe item.

Yes I think. But you're going to hell for not loving Rasaad.

I can't fit him into my party!! Already full. So like, how do I get this quest of his so I can get the item? Do I need to wait a certain amount of in-game time?

Crappy Monk (I forget his name as well) was auto-leveled to my party level when I first picked him up. I even went through the recruit dialog around level 1 accidentally, but I didn't want him in my party at the time and let him go. He was lvl 4 when I recruited him for real.

However, when I finally got around to picking up Minsc, he was still level 1 while the party was in the 4s and 5s.

The game does seem to only check your party level the first time, but maybe the DLC characters have extra scripts to level them until recruited? Still, none of them level when you ditch them for a while.

Holy crap.... just used the belt and gave Rasaad some AC gear. Wow, he packs a punch!
