character specific quest question!

regarding quests where a character will join your party to complete it, is it possible to complete that quest if they aren't in your party?

The characters so far are Kagan, Minsc and Edwin. I'm wondering if I can complete those quests without them actively with me while I do it.

Thank you in advance!

kagain doesnt really have a quest, he is too lazy.
As for Minsc and Edwin, you can go to the gnoll stronghold without them, but its good to have at least one. I advise saving before hand if you plan on taking both there.

Without NPC project most characters don't have quests. A few things to keep in mind though, the characters that do are usually time sensitive. If you dont take Kagain to the area just north of Bergost to see the wrecked caravan, he will leave. Coran will leave if you dont do his quest in 14 days. Minsc also needs to get to the Gnoll Stronghold in a certain amount of time.
    I think thats it though.

I was not aware of the time thing, though I should've guessed. thanks for the tip.

if I were to ditch a party member temporarily in order to travel with Kagain, is there some characters who would be unavailable to find again later? I'm assuming most can be "found" in the same area I originally found them, but I've picked up a couple of nasty travellers on the road that I quite like but I'm not sure I'd be able to find em again.

    thanks again for the tips!

@sab0t Most will allow you to re-recruit them depending on your reputation when you kick them out. The evil characters will stick around to re-recruit (usually staying where you left them) assuming your reputation isn't above a certain point when you split up. The opposite for good people, if your reputation isn't low when you kick them out they should be happy and stay there until you come back for them.
