Minsc & Dynaheir vs Edwin vs Viconia vs Dorn?

in Archive (General Discussion)
I need help picking last two characters for my party.. both for balanced party and fun NPC interactions. Currently I have:

Main character - fighter - good
Imoen
Jaheira
Neera

Candidates for last two spots:
Minsc
Dynaheir
Edwin
Dorn
Viconia

I'm currently torn who to pick. Do I want a second mage? Second cleric? Second fighter?

    Dorn and Viconia are Evil and would not enjoy being in a party doing 'good deeds'. Edwin is also Evil and does not like Dynaheir, but joins you to 'keep an eye on her'.

    If you are doing a Good playthrough then go with Minsc and Dynaheir.

    Dorn and Viccy. Don't cringe and buttkiss your way out of fighting obnoxious do-gooders and enjoy superior NPCs for your trouble.

    I'm not as much concerned with good/evil - I think as long as I keep reputation <=18, evil characters won't leave.

    Wouldn't that only leave me with one mage, and a Wild one at that?

    Only if you don't plan on dual classing Imoen, as most people do. Honestly though, mages are not as crucial in BG as in BG2. In lower level play it it better to beef up the front line and archers.

    Neera was enough of a mage to be my sole source of arcane magic through BG1. Mages never really get powerful until the end of the game anyway, and at the low levels of BG1 you're better off with a more combat-heavy party.

    Dorn is absolutely nuts, probably the most powerful recruit-able NPC in the game. Regardless of who else you take, I recommend grabbing him.

    I'd say dump that obnoxious hypocritical Harper bitch Jaheira, get Dorn, Viccy, and Edwin too. Fun to have him around Neera since he's a Red Wizard.

    Minsc & Vicki. I'd feel sad and lost without them in my group. And you really get three for the price of two if you count Boo. (More than that if you count animate dead)
