Dorn in a good party?

I figured it make sense to make the most of the new content. So I was thinking of Neera and Dorn in the party (other chars:me, Imoen, Kivan, Branwen). Will this work through to the end of BG1 without being a nuisance?

Having an evil party member means you need to manage your reputation. Having it over 18 could trigger them to leave at any given moment, leaving you hanging. They take away all the equipment they're carrying, too.

Other than that, there are certain character combinations that sooner or later end up in a fight. I don't know if that happens between Dorn and any other NPC, but I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you that.

That group shouldn't spark any controversy that I'm aware of.

That sounds like a good group, by the way. I would only replace Branwen with Viconia. That way you'd lose a couple of rep points, making it easier to keep Dorn around.

Weird. That's the same party I have at the moment. You're not playing a half-orc Cleric of Helm and considering making Imoen a dual mage/thief too, are you? lol :P

I have Rasaad in my evil Party and it just works fine.
Neutral evil Charname, Dorn, Viconia, Edwin and Neera.

Why does anybody think, that an evil party means, that you run around and be a killing douchbag all the time? If your characters INT is not under 12, they should be clever enough to not make the world hate them. I for myself try to keep my reputation around 8, leaving money at the next temple if needed.
Real evil persons don't show that they are evil either (most of them). Just think of a real life bully: they may be assy to other children, but they will behave in front of the teacher or their parents.

Yes, the Baldur's Gate reputation system is not accurate of real life behaviours.

there should be two "reputation systems" ; one for your reputation vs the world (shops, public places, ...) ; one for the fact you are behaving good or evil.

So : killing a lonely man in the woods shall not induce a reputation drop but an internal reputation drop towards evil.

On the other side, claiming a bounty that's not yours (and being discovered) shall drop your reputation (and therefore refusing it should increase it).

With every RPG in my first playthrough I try to act as I actually would in each situation. I haven't made any decisions about NPCs before playing.
That said my party is the following:
Senash (chaotic neutral sorc), Imoen, Jaheria and Khalid, Neera and Dorn. I also had Xzar and Monty and Minsc for a bit.
I thought I will have Viconia, but I kinda fell in love with Neera and we do get along very well with Dorn,so sadly we had no space for her.
About Dorn: while I do maintain a good rep, I did kill a flaming fist member, after attacking me for joking about being a bandit. But even after that my rep rose quite quickly. I'm still at 16 or 17, but I don't want to loose Dorn (as I said, I like him, I understand his need for revenge and I can sympathise toward him about how society treats him unfairly). Thankfully my character (being CN) is a bit mischievous, so stealing is something I do quite much. So if my rep rises too high I am planning to "accidentally" get caught by the guards, will try to bribe them, then make a run for it. I really hope that will be enough.

OFF: my BG2 party will be interesting though, as I think that I will end up with the same party, with Viconia instead of Khalid, which will leave me kinda short on tough melee fighters...

If you want a 20 rep and Dorn, get the Helm of Opposite Alignment from the Demon knight in Durlag's Tower. You have to kill him the first time he appears when he fireballs everyone to get it. Use the wand of paralyzation on him to keep him from teleporting away.

Interesting. When BG first came out I played through it twice, both with good parties although the seond time I meddled around a bit and used more ofthe NPCs. I actually like the idea of Dorn and as mentioned a bit of evil quality in a good party. But I remember that certain combiniations in BG didn't work (i.e. would fight almst immediately) so I dodn't want to progress with this as my final party only to find Dorn will fall out with someone to badly......so just need to manage that reputation to 17 or less then

My halfling barbarian plans to recruit Rasaad and Dorn next (already has Imoen, Viconia, and Neera). He's chaotic neutral but his player is a softie and a goody-two-shoes so sooner or later enough good deeds will have been done to make a couple of my party mates restless. If they leave, they leave. I ain't gonna sweat it or go out of my way to meta around it.

That said, every inn and tavern should have a "drunken debauchery" price list with a chance of lowering one's reputation. I mean, if you're caught swinging upside down from a chandelier with your face buried in a half-orc's tunic, that can't be good for your reputation, right?

at the moment i think the repuation thing is bugged with the new pcs, i have all 3 in my team and my rep is 18 and no one has said a thing since ( my rep was 11 when i got all 3) and right now i have the option to give the girl her cat that went down the waterfall to rise it up one more point, im curious to see if dorn will stay around

Just walk into that tavern with the Paladin in it and your reputation problems will take care of itself. "He was drunk and fell on my axe....repeatedly. It wasn't my fault honest."

I'm vaguely aware of that. I hope my innate goody-two-shoedness can handle it. :D

Its in one of the non named taverns in SW Baldur's gate. The paladin just attacks your party if he detects anyone evil in it. My personal guess is he was ordering off the 'Drunken Debauchery' list you mentioned.

I'm not quite sure if this has anything to do wth Dorn but I think since letting him in my party my Neera quest has disappeared from the journal. Is this a journal/Neera bug or is it connected with adding Dorn to my party? I defintely had a quest entry appear relating to Neera when she joined my part which has no disappeared. I started out doing Dorns first kill and thought before I start Naskell Mines I would follow up with Neeras quest but it has disappeared. If I go to Adoys Enclave what will happen?

i remember having some problems with the journal not showing up quests, (so it probally is a bug) but as long as adoy's enclave is on your map then you should be good
