Does anyone else see the enhanced editions as an investment?

Hello ladies and gentlemen.
Long time lurker first time poster but i wanted to ask a question of you all. Nothing invasive just seeing if anyone else is/has done similar to me.
Bit of a background.
I bought the first game when it came on 5 CD's. expansion when it arrived also. bought it as a budget title. Mainly because it came on a DVD and had a patch disc with it, and seeing as i wasn't old enough to have my own place and broadband was a still a dream, we didn't even have a dial up connection at the time.
Bought the second game when it was launched. bought ToB when it was launched.
Bought the complete box set when I saw it. I'd managed to lose or lend the away and saw it and got the itch again.
Bought the series on GOG when an ex (when she wasn't an ex) saw it and again i got the itch. that was when i discovered the modding community and it reinvented both games. The BGT mod is still in my opinion one of the finest examples of community love and enthusiasm I have seen.
When they announced the enhanced editions I re-installed the GOG versions and played again. Knowing full well they would be getting my cash as soon as possible. When it was said that the aim was to possibly (hopefully) make a third game then there wasn't even a doubt so i pre-ordered it.
Am i pleased? well yes, I enjoy the new NPC's and new quests. I also appreciate that they haven't gone down the George Lucas road and tried to "fix" what wasn't broken and instead added and updated. Although after completing it I have gone back to my modded GOG copies mainly because i can play the second one through after.
Just got the iPad version as i am off for a couple of weeks, and while i am sure i will like it. after so many years of mouse and keyboard the control system doesn't feel that natural to me. it feels very fiddly. although i do have big hands and fingers which don't help. if i was a teenage russian ballerina then it might be a bit easier.
In case its not obvious I love this series. I love the story and the characters. I have completed it with most of the npc's and quite a few of the modded npc's. Solo runs aren't my thing but if that's how people want to play who am i to say what's right and wrong.
I have payed for this game many times over and after all the enjoyment i have had I feel its money well spent.
I have bought the enhanced editions because I hope that it will enable overhaul to continue making the enhanced editions of other black isle games and hopefully create their own.

Finally the question (and if you are still here for it, Well done) is anyone else investing in this game purely in the hope that it will result in future releases?
And if this is the first time you have played the game, Have you gone and got the sequel or are you waiting for the enhanced edition of that? If you are then you have more patience than me and must tell me your secrets.
sorry for the wall of text. (I'm English we're actually very polite, unless you spill our tea, DAMN YOU BOSTON)

Having played the game before, both off of discs (multiple sets over the years) and GOG, the decision to purchase BGEE for me was largely due to the promise of BG2EE and possibly a BG3. So, yes, I agree, this was largely an investment into future works.

Well, that and multiplayer support. I've wanted to give multiplayer BG a try for over a decade, but for whatever reason could never get it to work properly. That's all going to change this weekend.

I bought it because I wanted it. I pre ordered to show my support more than for the $2 discount. I would pre order BG2EE right now today if they let you. Its definitely an investment for sure.

Not purely for that reason alone, but it's actually my "top" reason.. meaning that I hope that this will result in many more releases AND new (such) games such as Project Eternity, too.

I got it because I was eager to get the package - support for new systems and higher graphics and whatnot. I probably could have done much the same with GOG's version and mods, but that would prevent me from having any of the new offerings of this title.

I didn't see buying it as investing in BG3, although it's obvious that success with BG/BG2 EE's will show that there is a viable demand for this product. Don't yet know if it will happen, but I would like it to.

Not the only sequel I wish would happen. KOTOR needed more sequels (TOR is not the answer to that need. I'd like to see more Torment, as well. Can't think of others just now, but they are out there.

Partly because I liked the new features proposed, partly because registering an interest in an economic fashion will lead to me being supplied with more things I want in future.

I only ever played through the first game once. I had a hard time trying to play it again after BG2. The resolution, the lack of kits, no sorcerer... Also the companions are vastly inferior when you put them up against the BG2 ones who have much more interactions with each other and you, not to mention their personal quests are better and there's a few romances thrown in.

BG:EE is something I've wanted for a loooong time; BG in the sequel's engine. I discovered tutu only last year and couldn't really get into it for various reasons... especially not when I heard EE was coming. So I bought this game for that, but also as an investment in Overhaul to get them to possibly make BGIII. Their other proposed remakes would be nice also.

I'm definitely waiting for BGII:EE and will get that too, but for now, I can get by with the original just fine.

TLDR version, please. Are you saying you bought the game partly to support the ongoing project of revitalizing BG? (BG2, maybe BG3 someday...)

This sums up my view. Investment in the future iterations is definitely a part of the thinking.

I consider BG:EE a platform test for BG2:EE. They can iron out all the bugs, tune the engine, open up as much of the game to modders, etc.

And if BG:EE does well, then presumably they'll have more resources to make BG2:EE better, so yea, definitely consider it an investment.

    Why not?

    Answer: No

I bought it because BG1 is my favorite PC game ever, I love it more than BG2, and I was willing to pay in order to experience it again - with even more new content

Anything else is just a bonus.

Why not what? Maybe I was unclear. I did not make an assertion, I only asked a question.

Anyway, I agree with the premise. I am hopeful my dollars will be reinvested in future BG releases and patches.

I see it as well worth the 20$. Within a week of being released, it was highly stable for me and had all the features I expected (plus a few more)! So I already got a return on my investment. However, I'm sure the game will 'appreciate in value' over time. Particularly after sub-races and other features are added. :) Further, I see it as building towards BG3...like everyone else hear does.

This game has always been stable for me. Only 2 or 3 crashes thus far in 2 weeks of playing, and no game-breaking bugs I've experienced. Love it. I happily bought this to play, and as an investment for future titles.

Oh my apologies. I just realized now that it wasn't an assertion, sorry about that. But agreed, a summarized version please. Then again, maybe not...after the long read, I got to admire the OP's passion for the game.

And yes, more of BG please, or any other new IE or FR games for that matter.

If you mean buying BGEE as some sort of investment towards the release of BG2EE, then yes.

Otherwise no. I don't consider spending money on entertainment as an investment. I simply consider it spending money to get some fun and store good memories.

I never owned BG2, but I played the heck out of BG1 the first time around. I bought this version so that I wouldn't have to mess around with five or six CDs that are aging, and likely to stop working someday. Also, the better compatibility with modern hardware, and finally the promise of more interactive/romanceable NPCs in the original game led me to buy this version. I do like supporting a worthy product line, but usually that happens as a matter of course when the product you purchase is worthy in and of itself, as is the case here.

Cheers for the answers. I was just wondering of anyone had the same attitude towards the game as me.
Just an update on the iPad version for anyone interested. I hope you have small fingers. I am going to have to find something thin to stick on the end of mine. The amount of times I have told an npc to swivel on it instead of asking for directions. It's amusing but I'm just glad I am playing as an evil character this time because I can't get in a conversation with the flaming fist without hitting the wrong response.

I pre-ordered BG:EE to support Overhaul/Beamdog, and I do see it as kind of an investment, as you do, but that's not my only reason for liking it.

I actually prefer the EE now, and I am not going to want to play BG2 again until I can do it with the BG2:EE. I love the new interface, and I especially like my colored foot circles! I can't live without colored foot circles in my games anymore. Going back to those boring thin green lines would just be so - bleagh. It would be like going back to standard definition TV after getting used to high-def.

Amen, brother! Heh, actually, same here! New interface and zoom function is wonderful! I have a very complicated BGT game, heavily modded, and I had spent a lot of time to edit nearly all of the enemies, spells, items, merchants in it, etc. to further make it unique and my own. It feels like my homebrew, heavily tweaked, and everything is as I want it to be. It is the best BG game for me.

But nowadays when I try to play it, my hand immediately goes for the mouse wheel and I get surprised and dissapointed when zoom does not work. Colorful feet circles are all nice and dandy too! I plan to buy an Ipad and continue to play BG:EE in it, anywhere, easily. I swear, I would never touch an unmodded BG game normally. BG:EE is so golden even without any mods, IMHO.

Yeah, I own BG and had BGT fully set up, but I switched to BGEE in the hope of increased mod support. They've already changed the paladin (and hopefully ranger) class to allow for evil alignments without falling at low reputation, which was one of the major things that needed changing.
