Solo Run No Reload Advice

I wanted to try a solo no reload run, and was torn between F/M/C, F/M/T, Cleric/Ranger, or Cavalier.

Are any of those choices outstandingly better, or a terrible choice?

I never got to play BG1 vanila and played tons of BG2 growing up, and I've been learning the 0-161k xp stage of the game is a bit different. (Like how powerful ranged weapons are, sleep, horror, etc...). So I was looking for advice from experts.

    I have never done solo no-reload, and I'm not an expert myself. But I believe it would boil down to F/M/C, F/M/T, and M/C. I don't know, but that's my bet because they'll make the character very versatile.

    If you haven't played BG1 before, I recommend dropping the no reload part, for some parts you will need meta gaming and to know in advance what lays ahead. Even with knowledge, a bad luck can ruin a no reload game.

    The greatest enemies of a no reload run in BG1 are Fear, Hold and Lightning Bolts. If you can get immunities to these then the rest are manageable.

    Cavaliers basically have to take daggers or axes in order to be viable. Ranged weaponry is important and it's the only ones they can use. This also means you'll need an 18/91 or better, because hauling around a ton of throwing daggers (or especially axes) is weighty.

    F/M/T or just M/T is good.

    If you've never gone through the game, I'd say enjoy it at a leisurly pace first just to figure out what you're doing and where to go. No reload runs sort of imply you know where to go at the very least.

    Easiest solo no reload for me was Blade but that one needs a whole lot of a knowledge before encounters. From your class selection i would say Fighter/mage/thief is the easiest thief points in lockpick/findtraps and fighter for weapon swings and mage for protection spells and few disabling spells.

    @gunman
    I've beaten the game since BG:EE came out and ran 4-5 characters through different zones to at least chapter 5, but yeah I might need another play through or two.

    Thanks for the advice

    @raywind

    I haddn't considered a Blade.

    I think for fun I'm going to make a few different classes and take them through a few easier parts and get them to level 3-4 and see which ones working out better for me. I'll try Blade in that too. Thanks.

    Blades biggest advantage early on is wands if you know where to get em and later dualwielding longswords with protection spells gets the job done nicely. F/M/T works a bit similarly with thieving skills on the mix but that doesnt get as good on casting as blade does. at max lvl blade can cast chromatic orb lvl1spell that petrifies enemies, 10D6 dmg skulltrap or fireball.

    Blade rules all end-game (ToB) BUT early on (most of BG1) you'll need to sleep a lot (sometimes after each fight...)
