Help with Kivan

So I've had him in my party for awhile now. I just finished the bandit camp. I gave the scalps to the officer in the jovial juggler and was paid. I talked to the officer again and she said her mission was complete and would go wherever and write some reports. The only quests left in my journal are Cloakwood, and Tazok and the Bandits. I have started Chapter 4.
Question - How do I properly complete the bandit camp quest such that when I talk to Kivan, he doesn't leave the party? I thought I was done, but if I talk to him, he leaves. I am worried he will leave on his own at some point soon.
