Kivan wants to go to bandit camp....but we've already been there?

I was force-talking Neera and Rasaad and clicked him by accident, and he said if we didn't find it soon he would seek other help. I recruited him before Nashkel, we went to Bandit Camp, killed Ardenor and Tugosz, and the guys in the tent. Tried to kill Tazok, but he got away.

In vanilla BG Kivan *never* said anything about this. Is he gonna quit on me? We just got into Cloakwood, don't really wanna have to replace him with, say, Coran.

You don't want to replace Kivan with Coran?

    ....

    Care to explain why?

I don't know if this is confirmed or not, but I read somewhere that talking to Vai in Beregost until she leaves "completes" his quest.

Not sure why is relevant to what is being asked here. To answer your question OP I guess because it used to be that Kivan would attack Tazok. To keep Tazok alive (for reasons I won't get into) this is now no longer the case.

You could always try checking shadowkeeper to see if the right variables are being used in your game, though BGEE may have changed them. Since you've beaten the Bandit Camp I guess you should have something to do with "findbandits" being listed as a variable of "2" amongst your global variables (I can't get to shadowkeeper at the moment).

    CLUAConsole: SetGlobal("FindBandits","Global",2)

    - this might also correct the problem. But hopefully the issue has already been addressed and this is just a hiccup.

You only run into him if introduced by one of the bandits in Peldvale or Larswood.

So if you went straight to the bandit camp ( i always killed the bandits that bring you there). Is there no possibility of you running into him?

    1. Unhelpful comment
    2. They are entirely different NPCs fulfilling different roles. Believe it or not, Kivan has this thing called "melee ability" that Coran completely lacks. Now I love me some Coran, he's an awesome NPC, but your implication that Coran should always replace Kivan is silly because Coran is a Fighter/Thief who's beast with a bow and lame with melee, and Kivan is a Ranger who's great with a bow and good with melee. Different classes different abilities.

I've just done a quick test, it would seem that Kivan will give the first warning after 5 days and then 10 days he will leave but only it seems after you force talk to him. His quest timer seems to start from the moment you pick him up

Thanks, all. I'll replace him if I have to.

Talk to Officer Vai at the Jovial Juggler in Beregost after eradicating the bandit camp. She'll confirm that the roads are again safe and depart back to Baldur's Gate. Kivan then should consider his mission accomplished, too.

I did all that. I didn't accidentally force-talk him until afterwards.
