Ideas for replacement for Garrick (spoiler)

I think I got the name right. I mean the npc bard. I decided I was temporarily insane for bringing to my team.

Before I had imoen, but hit a bug with dual classing, and after an export/import I am trying to replace her. I would have just taken her as a pure rogue, but I have a protagonist F/Th and she started at level 6 what with exporting and the choices of her skills by the game were not good as relating to my protagonist. The skills were redundant.

Here is my party

Fighter 5/rogue 6 protagonist
Jaheira fighter 5 druid 6
Khalil fighter 6

After I clear the maps other than the cloakwood and bandit areas I will pick up dynaheir and minsc..

I might pick Dynaheir up instead of Garrick for now so she can cast the identify spell, but anyhow....

So who should be the sixth party member? Four fighters and a mage. Locks and traps covered. Druid for healing. Mage..

I am not sure how to keep my reputation from being below 20 because I am as a gamer lawful good and cannot see myself being able to keep Dorn in the party or some other evil. I don't know all of the characters in the game. I could see taking either Kivan or Branwen.

Thanks.

You don't have to fill all 6 slots if you don't want to. It's probably best to leave them blank than to fill them with characters you won't use. Remember that XP is divided amongst your party evenly, so a 1 character party will level up 6 times faster than a 6 character party. Since you are using Jaheira, a multiclass character, your 6 character party will take 7 times longer to level than a solo character. So 5 characters might be enough.

Kivan is a great option because he'll act as an archer, giving you extra damage whilst he is on the edges sniping away at the enemy. It looks like you don't have an archer character so I'd pick him. But if you are finding that Jaheira isn't fulfilling the healing role sufficiently, then Branwen is a good pick. Although if you can handle another multiclass character then the dwarf Yeslick from cloakwood mines is a good alternate for a healer since he is a fighter/cleric.

Keeping Dynaheir around just to identify isn't worth it. You can always ditch her somewhere, accumulate unknown items and return to her to identify. You can do the same with Garrick. That way you can have two spare slots for an archer and a cleric if you find that a mage isn't suiting your party.

Cool. I actually really like Dynaheir because with that ring she has tons of level one spells and gives burst damage. Plus I want Minsc because he is funny and has good stats and can rage. So I will leave the slot open and think on it. I'll look up Yeslick on gamebanshee. I think Khalid is actually a decent archer.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    don't be fooled

Khalid is inferior to almost every other NPC.. especially Kivan. Although you'd have to replace Jaheira too...

I think I will take Quayle because mage/cleric sounds good and my character is a gnome himself.

EnterHaerDalis, do you say that because of his fear? His dex and con and weapon specialization I feel make him attractive as an archer. The con is for 'plan B'.

How about Ajantis? I've personally never used him, but I hear he makes a good tank. And as a paladin, he'd be a unique addition to your crew.

Try and get him early if you play on the difficulty that grants max HP on lvl up

@EnterHaelDalis A lot of people don't like Khalid, but he's a very solid NPC. He has some of the best NPC Con & Dex scores out there and the ability to get mastery in weapons, which means that his THAC0 doesn't fall far behind high STR specialised characters. He also doesn't require the gauntlets of Dex to be viable like a lot of other tank candidates.

With guantlets of Ogre Power he had a THAC0 equal to/better than my 19 STR Cavalier PC at the end of the game depending on gear.
