Mine would be:
1. Hiro Protagonist (playing as an assasssin because of few evil theif NPC's)
2. Viconia
3. Edwin
4. Dorn

Evil Cleric: Viconia, Tiax, maybe Quayle, if you include some neutrality
Evil Mage: Xzar, Edwin
Evil Thief: Montaron, Tiax (He's a C/T right? I've never used him.) Maybe count Safana.
Evil Fighter: (This one has the most choices - so many I'll probably miss some) Dorn, Shar-Teel, Kagain, ...
I'd probably go:
1: Montaron - He's a beast.
2: Charname - Also a Fighter/Thief focused on skills that don't need light armour to use so she can tank it up.
3: Viconia - Best evil cleric, only evil cleric.
4: Edwin - though I'd be tempted to lure Neera to the dark side instead.
Two 1/2 fighters plus two 1/2 thieves makes a whole, right?
Fighter: Kagain
Mage: Quayle
Thief: Montaron
Nothing more evil than the sound of these four in battle.
Is 'walked off a cliff' a metaphor for feeding Xzar to a pack of wondering ghouls or is there an actual scripted encounter where this occurs? I thought I has exhausted their options long ago, so i would be pleased to find it is the latter.
I have often thought of playing a game with core-rules and a no resurrection policy just to cycle in new party members and to see who was left standing at the end.
Sharteel dualled to thief
Xzar dualled to cleric
Edwin
Montaron
Xzar
Viconia
I never do this silly planning where I intentionally get half of a pair killed to keep one, especially since both Montaron and Xzar are awesome at their respective jobs.
Edwin
Viconia
PC - halfling swashbuckler
That was the first party I ever used to beat BG2 and still my favorite party ever.
So mix and match:
Shar-Teel for Thief
Viconia for Cleric
Edwin for Mage
Dorn for Warrior
Replace whichever NPC has the role CHARNAME is for a 4-man team.
For a full 6-man party, though, I'd throw in Kagain to tank.
Edwin
Viconia
Dorn
Sure, no traditional tank, but I'd still rather roll with this than replace Dorn with Kagain. A fighter/thief can start off any fight with a devastating backstab, and the melee power between the PC and Dorn is insurmountable. Add in Edwin for heavy artillery and Viconia for support, and I can see this party going places.
Not sure if it's strictly better than other options, but I favor offensive capability over the need for a stalwart tank.
