"To hit" what factors in?

Hi!

I have a question about the "to hit". It might just be me not remembering the old rules. But should not STR factor in on the "to hit"?

I have created one black guard and one undead hunter but two dots in two handed sword and two handed weapon style.
They get to hit value of 17 and 16 respectivly game says this comes from the profficiency however I expected to get a bonus from my STR as well.

Anyone that can shine some light on what factors in for me?

    Strength, from 17 to 18/50 gives a +1 to hit with melee weapons. From 18/51 to 18/99 gives a +2; and 18/00 gives a +3.

There is no way to get such values at level 1 by virtue of proficiencies alone. Your Strength was obviously calculated but didn't get its own credit in the calculation. For example, if the inventory screen says Two-Handed Sword to hit -3, I can assure you that -1 came from proficiency and -2 came from Strength.

But STR 17 should give him -1 .. else there might be some information needed, like level etc. (or maybe a screeny) to properly answer it.
With lvl 1 (?) as described above he should get only Thac0 18 (prof -1 / STR -1) and it's shown as a combined -2 to-hit modifier. The weapon's to-hit is shown too but included in this number.
Only specific items got a different entry, ie Helm of Balduran.
