Help for tactics of wild mage

Hi, I was thinking of trying Neera out but I am not sure how to play her. When should I use the reckless dweomer? When the chaos shield? Just if you could write a bit about their stategy spontaneously I would really appreciate that.

It depends on how you feel about Reloading. If you don't mind reloading over and over you can load up on Reckless and just keep trying to cast those high level spells over and over. Like, if you find a Cloudkill Scroll, and Neera learns it, even if she can't cast 5th level spells yet she can try to cast it anyway using Reckless.

The other upside to Neera, is that she has the bonus spells per day of a specialist mage but no forbidden school. So she can learn and use everything but might drop a cow on your head.

Thanks! I didn't realize she had extra spell slots. I don't mind reloading and it could add some interest to the game.

    You're welcome!

Now, Reckless does have some other benefits if you don't want to abuse it by trying over and over to, say, drop a Cloudkill on bad guys offscreen at level 2.

It casts Super Fast and can let you cast spells much more quickly than normal. And if everything is going down in flames anyway, hoping for a good surge won't really hurt at that point.

Using the Wild Mage shield spells can help with the surges as well, so it's something to keep in mind.

Chaos shield (and greater) apply a bonus to your wild surge roll (random or reckless). If you use Naehl's it also adds your adjusted caster level as well. The higher the check, the more beneficial (usually) the result will be.

By the time you get into the late sequel, Naehl's becomes extremely powerful because you rarely get a bad result. Unless you're casting a self cast and get a target is turned to stone with no save result...nice for an offensive spell but...not so much for a beneficial one.
