Weapon broken?

I have a fighter who gets his long sword broken after two fights with kobolds. I had to change three long swords during one level at Nashkel mines and then I ran out of long swords. Minsk breakes his two nanded swords at alarming rate as well.

Is it normal?

Yeah, normal weapons that are made of iron tend to break in this game, and there is a good reason for that. Magical weapons won't break.

Yes, though you do seem to be having a bit of bad luck as far as this mechanic is concerned.

They break so frequently to reflect the iron shortage which is part of the main storyline.

If you want an exhaustive list of magical weapons that won't break, have a look at these 2 links:

I don't think it was a good idea. What is the point to have three stars proficiency in some particular weapon if it breakes in minutes and you have to fight with some crap for the rest of the hour?

All of those short swords I'm fighting with are barely better than bare fists.

There's a reason for it. Have a wooden weapon as a back up, and keep an eye out for magical weapons, which don't break.

I'm sorry the crisis gripping the entire country is inconvenient for you. Good thing replacements cost pennies and magical versions of every weapon can be found within hours of starting the game.

I think you misunderstood when people said "there's a reason for it". The weapons are breaking because of the Iron Crisis, which is part of the main plot. As some people pointed out, magic weapons don't break.

Go North from the Nashkel carnival to get Minsc a greatsword +1 from a half-ogre named Arghain, search the area outside the mines for Prism and kill Graywolf for his magical, incredibly badass longsword. Problems solved.

    What Schneidend said.

Also - magic weapons = win.

    Stage 1: Collect magic weapons
    Stage 2: ???
    Stage 3: Profit

There's a +1 bastard sword in one of the chests in the Beregost smithy's place (takes about 50 open lock to open). There's a named hobgoblin in the zone south of Highhedge that drops a +2 short sword (he's pretty stout though and has 2 friends). And immediately east of him there's a guy that drops a +2 hammer (he's also pretty stout and has a bunch of undead). The Smithy in Beregost sells a +1 longsword and +1 short sword. And a few other things. There's also several new weapons that BG:EE added that I don't know their locations by heart yet.

+1 mace with a stun chance upstairs in the Burning Wizard, Beregost.
+1 Wakazashi in Dorn's joining encounter.
+1 Club SW of Nashkel from Krumm
+1 Longsword +3 vs undead from the encounter at the back exit to the Nashkel mines
+1 throwing axes from the Beregost Smithy, can be used in melee

I think that's all the ones available early. Check the above links for more.

I already have stun mace and +1 flail, the problem is that they suck compare to non magic long sword due to my weapon proficiency, I'm not cleric. Couldn't beat Greywolf so far

I made this post thinking it could be another bug, the game on iPad is incredibly buggy so sometimes it is hard to say, is it a feature or a bug.

Let's say this weapon which breakes every 5 minutes is an attribute of good old game from 90-th, when developers didn't bother which accessibility for five years old. Already had to restart the game almost from begining cause Minsc went ballistic due to time delay. Now I got Dynaheir first
