So I've played this game a lot. It's pretty much my favorite game in the world actually... and like somebody who drinks a lot of wine, eventually you begin to appreciate the other, more subtle, facets of the things you love. I am sad to say it has taken me years to try something completely different than my normal approach. My normal approach being something like a "goal maximizing automaton".
In the past I would open up this game and I would do everything I could to exploit the various game mechanics in this game to my own ends. For example selling everything I have and stealing it back for gold (why not just cheat it in?) or killing Drizzt with a neutral good character by setting a billion traps (why not just ctrl-y?)
I have tried something new (for me) and much more cool recently that has completely changed my experience of this game... I haven't been using the quicksave feature at all. And I'm staying within the bounds of my character. And truthfully it's a lot more fun... I wish I would have tried this sooner. And yet... it's a testament to how awesome this game is that even when you break it it's still just plain damned fun.
But I'm a changed man... and now I am interested in you splendid folks who have been doing this all along? What are your bits of wisdom and lore and unbroken adventure?
