(SPOILERS) The 5 petrified adventurers in Durlag's dungeon

I was just going through the dungeon for the first time and ran upon these guys.
The skeleton said they will help me against the enemies in that level, but after a while they will turn on me.
I recruited two of them, then zoned to a boss battle, and while I was there I "heard" the two of them killing each other in the next room (hilarious).
One of them had a magical sword (which I didn't identify yet, 'cause Edwin doesn't do Divination).
I had already killed pretty much everything in that level, so I went to kill the last boss before getting the last three guys.
Unfortunately, as soon as I killed the last boss of that level, I was teleported to the next one, without having a chance to recruit (and kill) the remaining petrified adventurers. Given the prophetic words of the stone masks, I should have seen this coming.
And of course I messed up with the savefiles, which would be bad already even if the very next level wasn't such a nightmare.
So, at this point, I basically would have to go back to the beginning of the level, if I wanted to get all five adventurers.
My question is: is their loot any good? Is it something unique and worth doing these last two levels all over again for?
