So what would happen if....

So, you have a mage.

Mage summons a familiar.
Familiar dies.
Mage summons another familiar and repeats the process until they have 1 Con.
Mage drinks a potion of Fortitude.
Mage kills two more familiars.

Would the mage die despite the negative? Would they die when the potion wore off? Would they shoot up to 25 Con when the potion wore off? Or would they just be killed by PETA?

    Well, not to role-play too hard but...

    It'd be nice if it had repercussions w/ Mystra.

    Can't comment on game mechanics so won't.

    Edit: for words. I've been chastised in the past.

    Worth a test!

    Who wants to volunteer? :)

    Well, since I already had a 7 Con mage....

    Testing this, it appears that the reduction is rather oddly handled as a negative debuff, rather than a change to the base stats - it's always highlighted in red, and drinking a potion of fortitude after six dead familiars only brought it up to 12.

    On resting, death before the campfire finished fading.

    That's interesting.

    I wonder if it could be restored with a Restoration spell? Give that a try, and let us know how it works.

    'Tis indeed, though I believe that behaviour to be a bug (Potions of Fortitude should be unaffected by previous familiar deaths even if they are affected by one during its active state).

    And.... Greater Restoration had no effect. Curious behaviour overall.

    Isn't the con loss meant to be permanent?

    Remove curse? Most likely won't work either but why not try

    @Silchas

    Nope. Nada.

    @rdarken

    Correct, it's supposed to be a permanent loss, but unlike other permanent losses in the series, it's handled more like the Claw of Kazagoth - a negative adjustment to current Con, whatever that may be - rather than just lowering the Constitution directly.

    Which seems strange to me.

    But maybe that's so that it doesn't affect the character when you export it. That would kind of make a lot of sense, actually.
