Dismissing NPCs

How will BGEE treat dismissed NPCs? I would like them to stay where they were booted, but that didn't work with Rasaad,,, he walked away.
So, are dismissed NPCs lost forever, or do they go back to where you first found them, or to a tavern? Any insight appreciated.

Some will stay where you dismissed them, some will go to a tavern and stay there and some will go their own way (aka lost forever).. it really depends on the NPC.

I think all the new NPCs go to the Friendly Arm Inn to mimic BG2 behavior.

Dorn and Neera return to the Friendly Arm Inn. Rasaad returns to Nashkel. BG1 NPCs stay where you left them.

Rasaad goes back to his old spot in Nashkel, FYI.

    It depends on the NPC.

I'm putting an (?) on those I'm working from memory or have no knowledge about, if anyone will have good information on it, I'll edit this post:

    Ajantis - Will stay put.
    Alora - Will stay put.
    Branwen - Will disappear.
    Coran - Will stay put.
Dorn - Will go to the Friendly Arms Inn.
Dynaheir - Will Stay Put. Will disappear if you reject her when you first encounter her. Misc will go with her if he's on the party at that moment you first reject her.
Edwin - Will disappear forever if you refuse him with Dynaheir in your party. Will stay put otherwise. Will also stay put if you later remove him.
    Eldoth - (?)
    Faldorn - Will stay put.
    Garrick - Will stay put.
Imoen - Will go to the Friendly Arms Inn (?)
Kagain - Will go back to his shop in Beregost (?)
Khalid and Jaheira - Will disappear if you refuse them the first time you see them (?). Will stay put if you later remove them (?)
    Kivan - Will disappear.
Minsc - Will stay put, but see Dynaheir for a way for him to disappear forever.
    Montaron - Will disappear.
Neera - Will go the the Friendly Arms Inn.
    Quayle - Will stay put.
Rasaad - Will go back to Nashkel.
    Safana - Will stay put.
    Shar-Teel - Will disappear.
    Skie - (?)
    Tiax - Will stay put.
Viconia - Will stay put if you remove her (?). Will disappear if you reject her the first time you see her.
    Xan - Will disappear.
    Xzar - Will disappear.
    Yeslick - Will disappear.

I THINK Imoen stays put, but I could be wrong.

Dismissed Montaron and Xzar outside the Jovial Juggler, they stayed put.

This was after completing the Nashkel Mines.

All these characters stay put when I dump them. The other ones you listed are either correct or I couldn't confirm because I couldn't remember where I left them.

I think as long as you were able to recruit them (they were in your party at some point, no matter how brief) and they have no outstanding quests, BG1 characters just stay where they are when you dump them.

Imoen will stay put, unless the behavior changed in BG:EE. Branwen IIRC rage quits to never be seen again. With Edwin, once I rejected his quest and he disappeared, but later when I came back to Nashkel with a dead Dynaheir in my party he was back on the bridge (and I was able to complete his quest and end up with all 3 of them in my party hehe). The last time I observed these behaviors though it was BGT so I don't know about vanilla or BG:EE for sure.

This is how all the NPC's (that I've had so far) behave in my game... at least as concerns having them in your party and then removing them.

Question: Has anyone had a problem with removing Yeslick and then trying to get him back in the party? He has nothing to say when I try to talk with him...

Dismissed Minsc and Dynaheir in the Jovial Juggler, before clearing the Nashkel Mines, and they stayed put.

Dismissed Branwen in the Jovial Juggler, part-way through the Cloakwood Mines chapter and she stayed put.

HOWEVER -- as a test, I dismissed Branwen IN the Cloakwood Mines and she disappeared.

Hence, it appears to matter WHERE you dismiss.

    Jovial Juggler is getting crowded!

ISTR wether a character stays put or dissapears depends on wether they're happy with your reputation or not.

@Arcalian: yup. tweakpack's happy component actually makes everyone stay right where you left 'em, except new npcs. also, learned a new acronym today.
