Hallf-Orc Kensai Help

Ok, so I'm running a Half-Orc Kensai who is working on Halberds. What other 2h weapon should I work on? Staves are nice but a lot of the really good ones require you be a druid or a mage or such. The other option is 2h Swords of which there are some awesome ones.

Assume for now that I can only learn two Weapon Proficiencies and they have to be Two Handed. Feel free to take BG2/ToB equipment into account.

    Quarterstaff over halberd.

2h sword. Don't have to wait for the World's Edge either - you can do some serious hacking with even a +1 zweihander which you can get fairly early.

Here are your choices: quarterstaves, spears, halberds, and two handed swords.

I expect that there will probably be more options as far as magical 2h swords go, especially in the later BG games.

I'm already almost Grand Mastered in Halberds, so that isn't changing. Just trying to figure out what I want to grab alongside it.

I really must recommend the 2-handed sword you find in the Cloakwood. It has freedom of movement attached to it as a constant effect. Seriously, it voids half of the traps and spells you'll face in late-game BG:EE, and it's a +2 weapon.

@lordrumfish pretty sure it's +3... anyone have it on them that they can check right now?

There is a +3 THS in BG1 but it's in Durlags. Cloakwood sword is +2.

    SW2H06 - Spider's Bane +2

This message was brought to you by DLTCEP. "Don't eat that!"

But it's true, Even the un-upgraded Staff of the Ram is enchantment level +4 (about what you'd want, only improved mantle, absolute immunity and PFMW defeats it), already does +10 damage and is crushing (clay golems HAATE) with a 10% chance of knockback/stun that can be very strong with many attacks a round. Upgrade it to +6 and there's no comparison, no save 15% chance of knockback/stun, +2 extra crushing and +1d4 piercing. Also the placing is fairly good. Obtainable in SoA, upgradable early into ToB.

Let me put it in perspective
Capped half-orc kensai wielding the Staff of the Ram will deal 53 damage per hit. With GWW that's 530 damage per round

Go for mastery in one weapon instead.

I already have **** in Halberd and ** in Two handed Style. So I wanted to know where to go from there, because halberds do PIercing and no everything is vulnerable to piercing. Staves sounds like a good thing to work on now as I don't think anything is wholly immune to both.

It is good to get staves and either halberds or two handed swords - staves hit everything and there are a lot of clay golems, etc. in BG2.

For BG:EE, the best two-handed weapon by far, IMO, is the Spider Bane sword. That free action ability is great both defensively (lets you avoid a lot of traps or negative effects) or offensively (cast a web spell and have your warrior duke it out with the enemies in the middle of it so they end up being held while you freely bash them to death).

Nothing is immune to blunt, and very few enemies have any significant resistance to it, so it's the best overall damage type. Also armors simply don't work well against it, and a few are actually more vulnerable to it.

The staff +3 is easily bought in Ulgoth's beard for your smashing needs in BG1, and SotR+4 can be acquired almost immediately in BG2, depending on how skilled you are at killing highly dangerous creatures fairly early.

Yeah, trekking North to Ulgoth's Beard is one of the first things I do once I have some spending money. Get the +3 Staff, the Cloak of Displacement, and see what else I can get if I have anything left to spend.

Shambling Mounds are immune to crushing IIRC. You won't meet them in BG:EE (except in the Pits?), but people have already started talking about BG2/ToB content, so I may as well warn you.
