NPCs' comments on reputation

Leaving aside issues concerning the implementation of the reputation system, it seems to me that the system whereby NPCs comment when rep changes is very poorly implemented. In addition, the game assets include "happy" voiced lines for all neutral NPCs which were never used because the vanilla table says neutral NPCs are never happy with reputation!

Current behaviour: When reputation changes, NPCs make comments based on final reputation figure, regardless of whether rep has increased or decreased. Neutral NPCs' "happy" lines are never heard.

Requested behaviour: Make comments based on whether Rep has increased or decreased. IE: good-aligned characters make positive comments when your rep increases. Evil characters are happy when it goes down. Neutral characters aim for a middle ground, so we hear their "happy" lines if high rep decreases, or low rep increases. All this regardless of final value for reputation.

This looks more like a bug than a feature request to me, so I'm moving it to Bugs subforum.

I'd considered posting as a bug, but figured it wasn't quite one.

I think BG uses comments as a feedback of "don't cross the line, or i leave" and "change back soon", even though your request is more realistic.

    It's not a bug, it's a feature!

    Virtue Mod.

EDIT: Wait I read it wrong. This is a bug. Hold on I'm confused.

EDITEDIT: Okay I understand. Yeah I thought this was a request to add more versatility to reputation and I thought of that mod.

    I don't care whether it's a bug or a feature - I support this request.

If we are talking about fixing this, it might be useful to consider Luiz's Neutral NPC stuff -

Neutral Characters Make Happy Comments at Mid-Range Reputation (Luiz)
Every joinable NPC has lines they say when they're happy, ambivalent, or upset about the party's reputation. In the original tables, neutral characters would never be happy--even at mid-range reputation values, they would remain ambivalent. This component alters the reputation table so that they are now happy at middle of the road values, so you can now hear lines from neutral NPCs which were previously not available. This component is completely compatible with any variant of the Happy Patch.
It is from http://www.gibberlings3.net/bg2tweaks/cheats.php in BG2 Tweaks, because the community held that BioWare(tm)'s implementation was the expected behavior - but it is on almost every weidu.log file I have ever seen, because it just plain makes sense to have neutral NPCs react in identical ways to evil and good ones - so that they each have a "happy place", a "I'm OK evn if you are not completely ok" place, and a "...and the horse you rode in on, buddy. I'm outta here." place.

This should definitely make it into EE. It enables original content that could never be heard, and restores consistency with good and evil characters. For the 3 people in the universe that really want the old behavior, I suppose they could make a "neutral NPCs are never happy" mod.

Neutral NPCs' "happy" lines are now heard.

Nice. And what does an evil NPC do if the reputation is lowered, but it is still too good for he/she. Is he/she commenting it "happy way", or still "unhappy way" - because it is still too good? Thanks.

    @Sese79

Any rep shift towards unpopular will result in evil characters giving their happy interjection.
