I do not remember where I picked up the first pair, but I got a second pair outside the firewine ruins. I seem to recall there only be one such pair in the original game. While a very good item, I don't think that duplicating items is much of an improvement. They could at least have created a new item rather than copying a seemingly rare magical item. I mean, how common is it if I manage to acquire two such items in a relatively short time in the same region?

There's always been two in the game, the second set used to be on Tazok (you'd only get them if you killed him if & when you meet him at the bandit camp). So they were a boon to those who had no issue breaking plot, where-as those who didn't kill him missed out on that extra set. So they haven't been added, they've been moved.

There's also two copies of the ring of wizardry, the ring is bit of a wait but still they're both rare items.

If you read the manuals carefully, there is a clue to make it MUCH less of a wait ;-)

One of them is still a wait but yeah, go dig & you'll find arcane gold.
