Splint mail and helmet on Coran (affects DEX?)

Hi

Does Coran's stats or archery skill somehow suffer when wearing a helmet and a splint mail?

Thanks in advance

not unless one or more of those items are cursed. AFAIK such items do not exist in the form of those items.

You can go ahead and put even full plate on him and there will be no negative consequences.

20 DEX archer with Full Plate Mail and no penalty? Sounds too good to be true. Thanks

Penalties to dex from wearing armor were introduced in D&D 3.5, I believe. It was in Icewind Dale II.
In BG saga there is no such thing.

Nay.. t'was already in D&D 3.0 and IWD II uses 3.0, too.

The only "penalty" is that he can't use his thieving abilities whilst wearing splint (though can if wearing elven chain, if at a small penalty to theiving skills, see: http://www.pocketplane.net/volothamp/chap6.htm )

Also IIRC he can not wear a full plate as his STR is not enough. He can not use thieving abilities when he wears heavy armor though. It becomes a chore to undress him each time he needs to pick a lock or detrap a chest. I can imagine him strip teasing each time too! Ughhh! And then Imoen tells I am a queer fellow!

The penalty to ranged was indeed introduced in 3.0. It set a max dex to each armor at least.

Why would you put heavy armor on Coran? He can't use thieving in that stuff.

You can always take the armor off for the short time he opens a lock.

Backstabs. Plus if you're using him as an archer, armor isn't a top priority.

My thought is this: with 20 Dex (equal to 19 Dex really), his AC is good enough with magical studded leather or a ring of protection. Coran shouldn't have to be your go-to guy for tanking, he should be a back-lines archer and thief. That being said, you could dress and undress him for a little extra combat effectiveness if you like that level of micromanagement.

I don't see a reason to not put him in Anhkeg and throw a ring of protection on as well. Backstabs are cute, but he does so much damage with a bow I always just leave him as an archer.
