Playing TotSC after Final Save?

So I just killed Sarevok et al. and I'm trying to continue on to Tales of the Sword Coast by loading the Final Save, and the save file loads, plays for a second, then exits out to the main menu. What's the deal? How do I continue on to TotSC after the Final Save? Am I supposed to play it BEFORE fighting Sarevok? Because that's not how the original game worked.

TotSC content is available as early as level 1 if you travel to Durlag's Tower or Ulgoth's Beard.

You CAN go to those places, but the original game made a final save after beating Sarevok, then you continued that game and it automatically put you in Ulgoth's Beard to start the expansion. TotSC was always meant to be played AFTER defeating Sarevok. Then it made another final save which you imported into BG2.

No. That's only true if you installed TotSC AFTER you defeated Saravok. If you did a full install Saravok remained the final battle and you had to complete all other content first. Either way, the final save is done when you enter the temple. I've played this many, many times over the years (from 1998 through 2012); and the game always ends when you kill Saravok.
