So I just bought the game and installed. Had the flickering screen issue due to the tripple buffering and v-sync but now my sound is all kinds of screwed up:

Sounds are a little "crackly" in the menus but when you get to the game it gets unplayable. It sounds like all sounds keep repeating themselves maybe. they just keep playing over and over and on top of each other and eventually it turns into a big noisy mess of sound and doesnt stop. With lots of mechanical stutter noises thrown in.

Can some body help me to figure out what this is about please? I have an Auzentek Prelude 7.1 sound card. It uses x-fi tech.

Been hearing alot about bugs and now that I have it I am off to an especially rough start.

Anybody else having this issue or am I the only one?
I can't seem to find anybody describing the same issue on the internet anywhere. Why me. I just want some BGEE

The dev team is on holiday break, but the first thing I would try is make sure your drivers are all up to date.

Ok so when I enable the realtek onboard audio again it works that way. Though I dont want to use that. I have a surround sound setup.

When I use the sound card everything has problems. Does not have issues with BG1, BG2 or Tutu just the EE. Im running windows 7 and drivers are up to date.

tried it, changed nothing. Its something to do with the sound card vs onboard sound. Something in the Auzentek drivers doesn't jive with the game. Weird. Like I said. No problem with the older BG games just the EE.

I can imagine how frustrating it can be. Why does this problem affect BG:EE and not vanilla? Vanilla was written with DirectSound API calls and it looks like BG:EE was updated to use OpenAL, presumably to support newer hardware.

The problem with the X-Fi is known, but so far the only solution is to upgrade the drivers and/or reinstall OpenAL. Unfortunately, it looks like Auzentek has been lagging Creative on this front.

What version of the drivers are you using? It looks like the Auzentek site has the 1.15 drivers, but there are some "test" drivers available that they don't make readily available. You could try the ones on this site:

Let me know how it goes!

Also, take a look at this thread - looks like there is a solution that might work for you:

Thank you very much, was able to solve it by using the Openal32.dll move thingy. Thanks again.
