Special ability descriptions

GrammarsaladGrammarsalad Member Posts: 2,582
I've noticed that I can't find any high level ability descriptions anywhere in-game except at level up (obviously excepting the '10th level' spells. This made me think about spells. The descriptions are available but it would be nice to be able to right click on them to get the description 'on the fly'. I think IWD (or maybe neverwinter nights?) does this. So...

Current Behavior: Descriptions for certain high level abilities are only available on level up. Also, other special abilities and spell descriptions are findable but are not readily available. For example, you have to go rummaging through the spell book in the middle of a battle.

Desired behavior: Special ability and spell descriptions available when the icon is right clicked.

Thank you

yes. I like to be able to double check on the fly what abilities do without reaching for the manual. Also its going to be digital so unless we print we wont have a current manual anyway.

Yes. Innate abilities (Berserk, Minsc's Berserk, Slayer Change, etc) are also completely undocumented in-game as far as I'm aware.

Oh yes! Very good point. [shameless bump]

Yes I agree. Also some of the rules are completely hidden in game (for example how much effect light armours have on your thieving stats)

I'm fairly certain that 2e had specific penalties but I can't remember exactly. I think it might have been impossible in heavy armors, without penalty in leather, and with some penalties in studded leather but I don't quite remember...But yeah, that would be helpful.

Yes, It was written in the manual that came with the game, but not in the game itself. They are quite large too. I think studded leather gives around 20-25% all around, and hide even more so

There's more to it, like different armor types have different protection against slashing/crushing/missile attacks etc. etc.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the BG2 manual actually stated that armor penalties worked like this:

    - Can't use Thieving skills with anything heavier than leather.
    - Leather armor only gives penalties to Bard pickpocket.

@Daedalus87m that was given at least in vanilla BG1. In the end of the character sheet. Don't know about BGII though, haven't played for a while.

@Tanthalas in manuals penalties were applied to hide and sneak. P125, it's a table ^^
